healthy dry food is an oxymoron. If you insist on feeding dry then I would recommend innova evo
for hairballs, slipper elm available in health food stoires. Just sprinbkle a bit on the food every few days
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods.
The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten
out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.

Healthy dry food is something of an oxymoron. (LOL - I swear I didn't read Ken's answer before posting this! I guess it's true - GMTA).
There are better dry foods, but there are really no great ones.
That's because dry food is inappropriate food for cats. Hard to believe since it's promoted so strongly, but it's true.
If you're going to feed commercially prepared food, then feed canned. It's soooooo much healthier for them.
The only dry foods I would ever consider feeding are Evo, Core and Raw Instincts. They are grainless.
Avoid hairball control foods. They are not species appropriate either - in fact they are skewed with increased fiber. While there may be arguments for adding additional fiber, add that on top of feeding dry food and you might end up with a mess. I don't recommend it at all.
Daily grooming is the key to preventing hairballs. That and feeding a good wet diet will usually take care of things.

We feed Blue Buffalo. You can also check out Natural Balance, Max Cat, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. I would recommend you add in canned food. Some cats have more UTI problems when on an all dry food diet.

I have 5 cats and 2 are long haired and all are indoor cats. I feed them all Friskies, whatever flavor they like the best. I am not sure that any catfood will prevent hairballs. I do brush all my cats in the evening while watching tv. this gets a lot of thier hair and fur out.

My cats got kidney problems after being exclusively on Friskies dry for 5 years, I can't recommend that.
The ones I like are---
Royal Canin Siamese 38
Wysong Vitality (not the other ones Wysong puts out)
Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul
Each bag feeds a cat for approximately a month. They range from $8-$11 each.

Nutrience has worked for our two cats for nine years. No digestive problems at all. There is a hairball version, if you like. Like you, we have one cat that is fluffy too. Nutrience, available from pet stores, is higher priced than supermarket brands, but recommended by our vet and our pet store owner, who is an expert on cats. Eight or nine live right in her store, in fact, all of them healthy.

no dry food is healthy for cats due to the fact it can and does cause bladder crystals. it is best if you can not feed a natural diet to feed a good quality tinned food. my cats/kitten get 40g of biscuits per day each and 400g-800g moist food between them. i also give a hairball paste and grow a cat garden which is safe herbs and grass. but if you must feed only dry then hills science diet

okay, i'm going to describe the bag to u. u can find it at wal mart,it says purina cat chow indoor formula, at the bottom it says, natural fiber blend helps control hairballs, helps your cat maintain a healthy weight and lean muscle mass, and contains the wholesome grains and garden greens your indoor cats crave. the weight thing isn't true though. we've been feeding this to my cat and she now weighs 27 pounds!!! the bag is also a green colour. i hoped i helped!!

the best I've found is Meow Mix's hairball remedy. I think that's what it's called. It prevents hairballs, is nutritious, and my cats like it, even though they are very picky and will usually only eat can cat food.
