I do not get offended when my religious views are questioned, or even attacked...attacks I can ignore. Let's face it, no ones opinion is going to be changed by those here at YA...so why bother. And, who is so sure of them selves, their beliefs, that they think they have all the answers...I certainly do not. We learn by sharing experiences, knowledge, views...not by closed mindedness and anger. No one will ever convince me that God's way is to war with others, regardless of their religious views. Perhaps the best conversations about religion are those that don't occur. ! It seems to be the same with politics...the old addage, never discuss......And, I never give a thumbs down to an opinion...that is pure arragance on anyone's part! WE each follow our own spiritual path, no two are alike..there are so many shadings to life, love, and belief. If I were to discuss my beliefs ( wrong word, I know what I know from experience, but since you do not share my experience, there is no way you could believe mine), you might think me insane. I just don't understand the need for all the killing in 'God's name." The 5th commandment is "thy shalt not kill," yet in the very same bible, there is one hell of a lot of smiting going on...contridiction and creates an oxymoron. "Have no false gods before me" creates a tension between faiths that is intolerable to an intelligent mind. It would seem that all people think that God is on their side in anything they do...yet they do things that are in direct opposition to each other. Somewhere, somehow, sometime, everyone is going to have to come to terms with this lunacy. AS Dylan put it so poinantly, "If God is on our side, there'll be no next war."
I take the bible with a grain of salt. ... an oral history of a tribe's life. (old testament) stated in terms that all people around a campfire could understand, given their limited knowledge of science, what goes on in the world, etc. I take the new testament as an agenda to further individual needs. Only by going back to the original scrolls, with an atheist expert at ancient language, could we have a real translation...all other translations come with an agenda of some kind. I always fall back on the wisest words ever written..."do unto others as you would have done unto you, " and "don't do unto others as you would NOT have done unto you." So very simple, so very easy to understand on an individual term, and yet...it seems that very few are willing to abide by these rules of true civilization. I take the bible literallly in only one section...God created man in his image....and to me, that means that God exists in all of us, it is our job in life's journey to learn, to perfect the soul, and become more intune with our God, whatever we picture that god to be. We cannot be killing for God, there is no excuse in the world that can justify that one. We kill for economical gain only. WE cannot hate in God's name, for he created us all...and that is a blatant coverup for out and out discrimination ...the world has NO place for any kind of discrimination. We cannot hate because some prefer same sex to opposite sex...in no place does our God say anything about this...it is mistranslation of a few parts of the bible that say this...and the translations are made to suit an agenda. When you look at things rationally, there is no room for hate, killing, harming, injustice, or anything that is associated with pure evil. To be a good anything, we must start by being good. ... so simple, it is glaring. Yet, we all rationalize our discrimination, we all cite examples from this or that to justify our discrimination. But at the end of the day, when we are alone in our beds, surely something nags at us that we cannot be right in what we are doing. I fight with myself daily to erase feelings that are contrary to civilized being. It is a battle that will never end, but if I stop the battle, evil wins...and I refuse to be beaten by something so foul that even I can smell it in my room at night. I wish you love, peace, and happiness in your journey through time and life...I mean that . Goldwing (Phil). Spell check is not working today, so please forgive any errors in spelling.

People werent neccessarily attacking your religion, although some were. I cant speak to some peoples anger because I dont know what their experiences were that made them so.
However if you are refering to Y's "question, He is a troll and has posted that over 50 times in almost every forum on this site. He is basically a mentally unbalanced irritant. Your answer was encouraging him.
And most people consider their relationship with their creator as a personal one. People that scream and shout it to the world constantly are crass at best.
Be an example, dont be a billboard.

Religion is a sensitive subject to people who believe in a system of religion because, at a minimum, they do not want to believe that they have been deceived or misled.
Religion is taught at such an early age that it almost becomes a part of a person's system of understanding the world. In societies where religion is effectively coerced by religious police, disagreement is not feasible fo rmost people so it is easier to toe th eline in matters of religion.
The back and forth on the subject is entertaining to me. I see groups of people who are ill-informed, do not understand science and reject science that has nothing to do with religion or faith, have irrational beliefs, rely on scriptures that are so ambiguous and nonsensical as to belie the idea that a supremely intelligent being is behind them ....
Yeah, it is amusing and also a bit frightening at times. Deeply religious people will kill over their beliefs, non-religious tend to be ultimately willing to live and let live.

somewhat, yes. but i don't expect to go through life without being offended. rather, it should be everybody's expectation to be offended every day in some way. when i do get offended, i tend to shrug it off and get on with my life, as opposed to many people who seem to not be able to handle it and immediately demand some sort of action against the person or people who offended them.
2cd question, no i don't find religious bickering entertaining. for the most part it's useless debate because everyone's beliefs are based on faith and cannot be proven right or wrong, so the argument is going to go nowhere and nothing will be accomplished.

I don't really get offended, rather, I don't let the offense get to me. It is offensive at times, but I also expect it.
I am on here to try an answer any question of non-believers and also of believers new to the faith. In addition, I try to offer correction in what might be false doctrine, although I will say that is where most of the debates come in. There are debates with non-believers, but from my experience, unfortunately, the rudest attacks come from those who are my brothers and sisters in Christ. Why do I try to correct a false doctrine or different belief, because the false doctrine or false belief can cost one their eternity. I wouldn't want God to ask me on Judgment day why I didn't even try or care. Having said that, I really try hard to be tactful and not demeaning in my responses or corrections. I do point out scripture to back up my words, but I don't get nasty if they choose to stay with there own belief.

Oh my beliefs have been attacked in numerous ways. It cracks me up more than anything. I have argued with people that were dumb as posts to people that could read Hebrew/Greek and had just about every religious passage memorized. I have met some of the biggies in certain major religions and had some interesting conversations. The thing I have found more fascinating is when you met people at the top of their church/religion what have you and can get them in an honest conversation between just you and them, it is amazing what they admit to. Sometimes what they really believe is not even close to what their religion teaches or they even proclaim themselves. They sometimes reason they have advanced themselves beyond the basic beliefs the masses adhere to.

I actually don't mind when I get a lot of thumbs down. I believe that in a way, I made them think about it, and they didn't like the fact that my answer maybe made them question their post, even if for just a second. Having my faith attacked bothers me a little, but in the end, we all answer to the same God, whether they want to believe this or not. :-)
And never stop praising God! The Bible says we will be hated for our beliefs, but the end reward is priceless!

Wow do you love controversy or what? I quickly scanned your previous answers and see that you frequent politics. Aren't those the 2 subjects people say you should never discuss?
Although few will say that they become offended, when their religion is attacked, this forum can get pretty nasty at times with persons resorting to insults and name calling.
As a Christian I know that Jesus prophesied that his followers would be objects of hatred on account of his name, so I am reassured that I'm on the right track when venom is spewed directly at my religion. At times I find myself drawn to defend my faith to persons whom I know from experience are not sincere in their questions but are looking for flaws and opportunities to ridicule or proclaim my religion a cult.

I am a Christian and I get attacked but it is no surprise to me the bible talks about the Christians being slandered etc, so it is to be expected,do I ever feel offended, not at all,I am a Christian woman that only worries about what Christ thinks of me, no one else.I have to please God no one else so that is my priorities, any one else it goes in one ear out the other, and on here, if it is something just plain stupid I won't even finish reading it I go onto the next question until I find a question that is worth my time.

I don't get offended at all. Non-believers can attack/make fun of Christianity all they want. When they attack me about my faith, it's NOTHING compared to what Christ went through. It's not even a drop in the bucket compared to the PERSECUTION people in some countries suffer today, and those who have suffered down through the centuries. Americans today know NOTHING about suffering persecution. Being made fun of for ones faith is NOT persecution.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) means I can put up with all kinds of nonsense from non-believers because Christ Jesus is standing by me and supporting me.
I wonder how NINEDEVINE KNOWS when Jesus is coming (in the year 3000?). Guess he doesn't know the scriptures very well. Jesus even said NO ONE KNOWS. (Matthew 34:36)

You have to keep things in perspective. If you believe in a higher power then does it really matter waht other people say or think? Consider this. Ignore the nay sayers and be true to yourself. I am of a very unpopular religion here in the US because it is misunderstood and misrepresented. But I have a relationship with God and that is all that matters in the end.
