Jesus started the Christian Church in about 33 C.E. This same Church started to call itself the Catholic Church about 70 years later.

The Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 C.E. (about 10 years after the last book of the New Testament was written), when the Greek term "Katholikos" (meaning universal) appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

"Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church."

We do not know how long they had been using the term "Catholic" before it was included in this letter.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 C.E. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

With love in Christ.

Yes Jesus Christ is the head of the Catholic (Universal) Church. This is not only Roman Catholic or Old Catholic, but also Orthodox, Protestantism, etc. He is the head of the entire Church. Catholic simply means that, Universal, for everyone, for all.

Catholic = Universal. It took awhile to organize, but it's the same Church that Jesus started. The breakup of the Church into the many denominations we see today is the greatest victory Satan has ever accomplished. It's also the ONLY victory he'll ever see.

Sorry folks, Christ is the ONLY PERSON REFERED TO AS "THE ROCK" in Several Passages of Scripture!!! Think about it please. When U have God,(Christ) at hand, why settle for a mere man to build a "Religious Organization" on??? OBTW don't tell me how Christ knew He was going to die so He "Elcected O'l Pete" to "Get-R-Done", because Christ knew from Birth, His Role in Gods Plan & had Many Years to build a "Religious Organization" (which would have been Acceptable to both Jews & Romans) but the Fact is, He "Established No Religion"!!! catholics think that Jesus started their church because they miss interpret Matthew 16:18,And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. the catholics believe that this means that Jesus built his church on peter(the pope). but if you read Matthew 16:13 to 16:18 you will see that they are wrong. Matthew 16:13 when Jesus came into the coast of Caesaarea PHilippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist:some,Elias;and others, Jeremias,or one of the profits.16:15 He saith unto them, but whom say ye that I am? 16:16 And Simon Peter answerd and said, Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.16:17 And Jesus answerd and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.16:18 And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Jesus told Peter that he was going to build his church on Peters and all believers belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God. later on in the Bible Peter himself said that Jesus was the rock.
