Well, let's see...
1) Referring to someone as an unsuccessful abortion entails that they were unwanted by their mother, so she tried to abort them, but it didn't work and they were born anyway. ie, their mother's love for them along with their own personal worth is being questioned and attacked.
2) Such a statement is meant to offend, so when people get offended by that statement, I would assume that you have been successful in your goal.
3) If you don't mean to offend people, then don't say this because, as I mentioned above, it's a very offensive and hurtful statement.

Why is it that you have nothing better to do with your life than ask such a ridiculous question? Maybe you should stop worrying about the unsuccessful abortions and ask questions like 'why don't girls like me?'

Because it's offensive. I'd be offended too, that I was talking to an idiot like that in the first place.
You're aren't really hurting anybody's feelings, just making yourself look stupid and make people want to leave your company.
