A steriod shot will NOT REPAIR your herniated disk. But will releave the swelling and inflammation so therfore pain associated with the disk herniation.
It will also stop the pain of the sciatica that usually comes with the herniated disk.
I had a epidural steriod injection done 1 year ago and my pain was INSTANTLY releaved.
It is only now, a year later, that I am booked in to have another one done.

Steroids, either taken orally, or injected, only act as an anti-inflammatory, and will give you relief from the pain, but as far as the actual herniated disk, it will do little to repair it. I was in traction, and given oral steroids, then injections for a ruptured disk, but ended up having to have surgery to repair my back. I hank the doctor every year on the anniversary of the operation, too. I am still able to play hockey, tennis, and almost anything I want to do thanks ro DSr. Neil Bonnet, of the Baylor Medical center, in Grapevine, Tx. HE IS THE BEST!
I hope that you don't have to have surgery, but if you do, I wish you luck. It was a very painful 18 months of crap I went through. But if I had to do it again, I wouldn't wait so long before having surgery. My sciatic nerve was severely damaged, and that is what took so long to get back from.
Good luck,
Stevo.

This steroid will break up the inflammation and ease the pain. It takes about seven days after the shot before you feel the full affects. It takes time for the medicine to break up the inflammation. This will not heal a herniated disc.
the amount of time that it relieves the pain varies with each individual. It can last up to three months.

it will alleviate some of the inflammation that results from the herniated disc, but it won't fix the disc.
