In 2003 our tax payers paid 19 billion to fight the "war", that's $600 per second 24/7/365, this year it will reach 45 billion...just do the math. Don't be fooled folks 93.6% of the "War" Money is salaries/benifits for do-nothing bureaucrats...their livelyhood depends on you and I who work in the private sector to supply them. Here's some facts: Prohibition failed..why because FREE people wanted to drink. The fact is only a tiny fraction of American do drugs...MOST 99.99% are drug-free like you and I. The one's that want to do drugs will continue to use drugs...the VAST majority won't. Some government idiots love to tell us we'll that "WE the People" can't be trusted....you'll all become DRUG-CRAZY fools if WE the BIG government allows you to put in your bodies what you want to....so we make laws and charge you 45 BILLION to enforce it! The truth is folks they are afraid they can't Tax this stuff...people grow it in their yards "if it were legal"

Can we all grow up?

Yes, yes,yes!!!!
You're preaching to the choir here!
The State should never do more damage to people's lives than the drugs do!
Is it a War On Drugs or a War on Poor People.
the War on Drugs is destined to go down next to the Bonus March Massacre, the Palmer Raids, the McCarthy Hearings, and COINTELPRO as horrors this government has inflicted on its people!!!

People are gonna do drugs no matter what. It has been proven time and again that drug users commit crimes to get money for drugs, not because of the drugs themselves. If the govt regulated them I am sure they would be much cheaper and safer than what they are now. This would cut down crime by huge amounts. I am not saying that drugs should all be legalized 100%, but maybe we can find a middle ground. As far as marijuana, legalize it. I hate it, don't do it. But, I would much rather be on the road with somebody that had smoked a joint than somebody that had been drinking. Alcohol is much much worse for the body and mind(and society for that matter) than weed. The problem w/ the other drugs is that addiction comes on alot quicker than w/ weed or booze.

OK so paying a little bit of money to save some people's life is too much? I don't think so. Most drugs can kill you and should we stop the war and let you die? You make that decision on your life. You may not take the drugs but what if you were given these illegal drugs without you knowing it?

Sorry, but this war on drugs is a good thing. Isn't it time you stopped doing drugs?

I think you're talking about marijuana...right? I know you can't be talking about methamphetamine or cocaine or heroin or any hard drug like that. If WE THE POLICE let people put these types of drugs into their bodies then we are letting people kill themselves or others. I know for a fact that these types of drugs fuel other illegal activities. People that are high of meth don't just sit around and enjoy it. For the most part, they go out and burglarize peoples houses and assault innocent people that can't defend themselves, just for the more money to get more drugs. If you're thinking that having less police officers will "fix" the problems in this country then you have some "problems" of your own. Here's an idea, call you local police department or sheriffs office and schedule a ride along with one of the officers. This way you can see what drugs are doing to our country. Until then, you should probably keep your mouth shut about things you know nothing about!!!!

Nope - not time to give up the war on drugs.

The war on drugs is kind of like the battle of the bulge. Even though you lose the war - you keep fighting it. We will never be drug free and I will never be a size 2. But you keep fighting.

I do not want drugs, drug users and the problems/violence they bring in my community.

Get out of here and go smoke your dope - and kill a few more brain cells.

if you think about it, rebuilding highways is stupid too. we pay billions and they only get torn up again. if we didn't build highways, people would soon enough quit driving. we could save trillions of dollars on road repair. or hospitals. if we didn't fix people when they got hurt, we wouldn't have to pay so much in social security or medical malpractice insurance. or you could just do it like in the old days and pay the doctor what you can (chickens, goats, firewood) and they decide if they want to treat you. or better, we could just nuke everyone in the world but us, and then we wouldn't need an armed forces anymore. we would be safe. your arguement doesn't hold water. if we just let everyone do whatever they wanted to, of course we wouldn't have to pay as many police officers. if we took down all the street lights, stop signs, speed limits etc. we could even let more cops go. if we told everyone it is a dog eat dog world and they are responsible for their own safety, we could let them all go. of course if we SHOT everyone who was caught abusing or selling drugs, eventually the market for drugs would dry up as well. the majority of the citizens want drugs hard to get. they want drug dealers and druggies to go to jail. they want morals and self-responsiblity.

and no, my answer isn't stupid. just you and your "I wanna smoke dope". do us all a favor, go jump off a bridge or step in front of a bus or whatever you need to do. kill yourself quickly instead of slowly with drugs. get a life.

jeez -- you think the government is going to vote iteself out of jobs and money? if you grow it in your yard then the united states government can't make money off of it. the united states government is one of the biggest drug dealers in the world market.

this kind of stuff just scrapes the surface of what a bunch of crazed maniacs run the government --

Yes we should quit the war on drugs, because if drugs were legalized they could be regulated like tobacco and alcohol are. The big criminal gangs that make billions of dollars on illelgal drugs would be out of business.

There are some lawyers and lawsuits going on that address this issue. Find out who the lawyers are who are working to change the laws, and support them.
