The blow and the whistle are 2 different sounds!
The deer whistle sound is usually made by the lead matriarc doe telling younger deer and fawns to follow her.She will make this sound and travel to not let danger pick out her place of travel and if you listen you can hear the young deer follow up with their whistle while tracking her.
This sound is usually heard only in the early part of the season and when the does become ready to mate it all but stops. Then in late season will start back up when the family groups "yard up" for winter.

Well that would be something wouldn't it? Give it a go, set up a recording device and see what comes up. I doubt deer are so smart that they'll know you bugged the trees!!!! It's a beautiful plan, just make sure to implement a pinhole camera as well so you can capture the lip movements. It's going to be the rosetta stone of animal language.

Yeah, I hear the deer moving around too, they make noises and they are pretty smart.... maybe just park your truck by a tree then put your tree stand up over the truck and wait for the retarded deer!! Might work....

yes deer communicate with each other, the bleats grunts already pointed out, also the dreaded "blow" or whistle. deer also communicate alot through body language, like tail wagging. saw some does doing this last night

All animals have their own unique way of communicating.* I see you are not an advocate of fair chase.*
