Usually jewelry represents love and affection especially any heart shaped jewelry. Even though your intentions may not have been to imply love or affection, perhaps she does. I don't think it was a bad gift, and she obviously liked it or she would have returned it to you by now. Perhaps, you should speak with her and relate your intentions that it was a mere gift of your friendship, and not presumably a gift of love and affection.

It was a sweet gift...but I can see where it might be awkward especially if she is just a friend. Best thing to do is just 'fess up and tell her how you chose that gift. Then ask her if you had a million bucks to get her something...what would she rather have had. Make it light and fun...suggest you might have given her a baby camel or some other ridiculously silly present. Clear the air as soon as you can...then off to buy her an ice cream cone as a "peace offering" for being clumsy.

It's hard to know what to do sometimes. It's a shame she couldn't have been more appreciative. Seemed to be a very nice gift. Even if she already had one; she didn't have to act like she did. Maybe, she thought the heart meant that you loved her; but she should know if you did or didn't by the relationship that you have already. You will probably find out before long how she really felt.

Yea, You should of had got her jewerly, just not Jewerly shaped in a heart, something like that happened to me in elementary school we had secret santa and a boy was my secret santa, and he got me a heart shaped necklace and everyone started calling him my boyfriend even though he wasn't..... So yes, it kinda was a bad gift, but it was atleast thoughtful

since the gift was heart shaped, it was telling your friend that you like her and have a crush on her. From the sound of her reaction, she did not expect anything like that from you. You should have a causal talk with her, about your gift. Just to clear the air and get things straightened out.

as you probably know, the heart shape is symbolic for Love. Hence, all the heart shapes we see at Valentine's Day. Perhaps the recipient and the friend were confused by the underlying message of the heart shape...

hmmm....usually boyfriends, or people that like each other give jewelry, especially if it's the shape of a heart.
the mutual friend lead you astray.
she's probably thinking that you like her, and that the gift meant more than friendship.
you could try talking to her about it, and letting her know that you only think of her as a friend and that your mutual friend suggested that gift.

A heart is more of a romantic symbol than one of friendship, so she may feel you've overstepped the current bounds of your relationship.
Also, I'm not sure your mutual friend is actually your friend in this situation.
