I worked on these a little too...I was trying to hit a scorpion position for cheerleading, but had a hard time getting the similar position in a spin. Just like you, I was stronger on the "wrong" side. :) To get into the position, I actually used the side of my bed, which was high enough that if I pulled my foot up as high as I could get it alone, using my bed -- or you could have someone help you -- to push my knee/leg up higher in the back. Sounds silly, but after doing it a few times, I was able to pull my foot up over my head by myself. If I were you, I'd keep up with stretching and working on your splits. Maybe try the MaxiFlex (rainbosports.com). With that, you can work on your stretches by yourself and increase your flexibility. Good luck!

Most everyone has an "easier side" when doing splits. Are you working on doing splits with the right leg in front? Make sure you are warmed up and do your "easy" splits first. Then get down as low as you can the other way to do do the splits with the right leg in front. Hold that position without it causing you pain (prop with your hands on the floor) - get out of the position - and repeat holding it longer. When you're done, sit and place both legs in front of you - shake out the leg muscles. Do this morning and night.

Hey, if you other side is stronger, maybe you'll end up doing a Bielmann back spin too - that'd be cool!

Make sure you do more than just splits. Do other stretches like touching your toes, making a wide V with your legs and stretching forward, etc. These will help you to become more flexible throuout your legs so it will make it easier to do splits. Also dont forget to stretch your back so you dont strain it while trying to do the beilman. Good Luck :)
