and my alcoholism obviously isn't a result of what I once blamed on biological predisposition (my entire family tree reeks of whiskey), then am I to credit God with "creating" the urge I have to abuse alcohol?

"Free will" replies not permitted. Thank you.

First poster, your little Christian counterparts often refer to evolution as EVILution, hence the INTENTIONAL misspelling. Get it, princess????

Genetics and evolution are in no way related???? Ay caramba!!

And what part of "Free will answers not permitted" do you people NOT get?

Well, the almighty, omnipotent, omniscient God who loves you so much that he has created a special place called Hell for you, will readily send you there if you refuse to believe in Him.

He has this perfect plan, see? He doesn't give you any proof that he even exists, and he passes his word on to you through a book called the bible, which is so full of inconsistancies, typos, and contradictions that you can only find reason in it if you discard whatever reason you have

Oh yeah...
Did I mention the fact that none of the writers of the bible were eyewitnesses to the events that transpired? Or the fact that the oldest Gospel was written about 70 years AFTER Christ supposedly died on the cross?

I wonder why so many people who saw him perform all of those miracles and rise from the dead and ascend into Heaven wouldn't bother to write about it at the time?

AHHHH!!! See? It's simple!
SATAN covered it all up to weaken our faith, and God was just too weak to stop him from doing so...er...uhh...I mean...God has a perfect plan and this was a part of it.

OUCH!!!
I've got a headache!

Speaking of free will, I don't see how God, 'telling humanity, after having created him to be imperfect, tells him to do certain things a certain way or he will go directly to Hell for eternity' is free will.

Since free will is not permitted. How about biological disfunction
(ie illness). Bing Crosby was also an alcoholic, and passed out in the gutter once, during a snowstorm. And woke up in the morning with a hangover, thanking God for saving his life. Want to do that?
Or just stop? Or ask professionals what to do to compensate and deal with it? God bless------(Oh, sorry).

Alcoholism is a biological, psychological, social and spiritual disease. The alele gene that was isolated in the 90s may indicate that alcoholism does indeed have a biological predisposition.

You can credit God if it makes you feel better, but we both know that would be a crock of s**t. You are one spiritual awakening away from having taken your last drink.

Try Taoism. Otay?

Dear Mr. Nolte,

you seem to be saying that God didn't create your urge to drink. And some posters seem to think it was Satan, but I think it is the absense of meaning in your life. Since neither God nor Satan exist in any form, and for that matter free will doesn't exist, it is clearly boredom. Try to give your life meaning by doing other drugs. Don't blame alcohol for your troubles and don't blame your heritage for your alcoholism. If you do in fact blame your family tree for your drinking, then where did the drinking originate.

No, silly... it's all down to Satan! You should know by now that an omniscient, omnipotent god can't be held responsible for the things he designed and created :-/

make yourself very seriously like pukey but non fatally ill so you are too ill to drink. Try and contract something like the measles or something like that so a drink is OUT OF THE QUESTION.

I just proved that we descended from grapes! Are you from another family tree?
Shall we start a religious war, wheat against grape?
