The Archbishop of Mozambique appears to have made up a story that western nations have deliberately infected condoms with HIV in order to complete the genocide of Black people (BBC On-line) This seems like a really dumb and wicked lie.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.

If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?

People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).

Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.

In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.

With love in Christ.

It's clearly an attempt to grab personal publicity. If formal testing reveals it to be actually true then I will personally take up a hammer and sickle, don a trenchcoat and a false moustache and encourage global revolution against the evil forces of capitalism, and that's a promise.

In any case, Catholics are somewhat ascetic with regards to sexuality. I've heard it suggested that using a condom is basically akin to mutual masturbation in terms of its function in religious terms, and that this is frowned upon as a fulfilment of base pleasure over one's own temperance. Basically, it makes sense, but in a world of despair where pleasure is to be taken wherever it can be found (a world that christianity does not acknowledge can ever exist as a result of the spread of the gospel), I would far rather people wore condoms than killed each other with diseases.

The rule is quite simple.
1) Sex is permissible between married couples with the intention of making babies.
2) Anything else is potentially sinful.
There are quite a few archbishops in Mozambique, but I don't know where this story has come from.

I don't know anything about the story you refer to from the "Archbishop of Mozambique", if it was truly reported, sounds more like it got distorted or taken way out of context by the media.

The "dislike" of condoms comes from Gods condemnation in the Old Testament of interfering with the conjugal act to physically prevent conception.

For zealots, there are no rules when it comes to promoting "the truth", not even about lying. (Of course, it doesn't help that Western nations DO interfere in African politics in other ways.)

As for condoms, many Catholics in Western countries DO like them, but the official Church position is that anything that mechanically interferes with the fertilization and implantation of fertilized human eggs is a sinful violation of "Natural Law", which states that everything has a natural potential that should not be interfered with (in this case, human eggs naturally become humans). Timing is not considered mechanical, so the "Rhythm Method" is allowed, principally because it is not fool-proof.

Ow! I think I just hurt myself from rolling my eyes too hard. Catholics dislike condoms because a) condoms allow people too much control over their own bodies and capacity for pleasure, which should otherwise be controlled by the church; b) condoms and other forms of birth control prohibit the creation of more mindless catholic tools. The Archbiship of Mozambique needs a good smack.

I find it difficult to accept the Church of Rome stance ( I accept it on abortion) and I think the Archbishop is undermining his own credibility by inventing or repeating this story to back the position of the Church. it has the affect of discrediting the Church itself

Mind your own business and let the Catholics mind theirs. Making snide remarks like that against other fellow Christians, only shows your small and nasty mind.

Catholic couples are made to feel they are committing a sin, if they use a condom.
