It is indeed free will. I didn't have to believe, yet I do because I chose it at a sensible time in adulthood. You see, you exercised your free will when you decided it was worthless. I chose to decide it has value. Yes, I see the value in Bhagavad gita, but there is only time for ONE devotion and one God in this sphere of human need. The other times are spent on other dimensions of human life such as arts, expression, studies, etc.

Your parents obviously did not set rules for you as you grew up. You cross that line and disobey, then discipline came because our parents love us. Our earthly parents give a glimmer of our heavenly Father who has set the standards that "keep us from harm" and are for our ultimate good. You have every right to disobey, but NO right to blame the Lord for the consequence of your foolish choices.
