Usually not in the name of Christianity.
But many Christians have had great accomplishments in the arts, music, literature, etc.
Jacques Casanova (the lover) was a Christian, and I love his 12-volume biography.
One of the sequencers of the human genome is a Christian.
Not to mention Beethoven, Michelangelo, Issac Newton, and most Europeans prior to the Enlightenment were Christians.
I love the people, but the religion is problematic.
P.S. I think it's better to do something because it is makes you a good person as opposed to in the name of religion.
Edit: "Athena: Think about it. You may not like it as a religion, but do you like being the free person you are? If it weren't for Christianity, you wouldn't have that."
Incorrect. The roots of secular government are in the Enlightenment, and they weren't exactly doing it in the name of religion. I think you need to research this more. Even in America, the postal service banned some of the books by Voltair in the 1930s. Where in the bible does it discuss Democracy or freedom to change religions? I thought the non-beleivers and other religions were condemned to hell, if I remember correctly.

Ever heard of St Thomas Aquinas? Alexander Pope? St. Benedict? Martin Luther (not Martin Luther King, or Jr....although they were helpful as well). Your question displays ignorance and it saddens me. If you look these people up and read about them, chances are you'll find many things that they did for this country, and for the world, that have been beneficial. Without Christianity this world would be so different. Think about it. You may not like it as a religion, but do you like being the free person you are? If it weren't for Christianity, you wouldn't have that. Do your research before you ask questions like this. I am an agnostic, and I am defending Christianity...something I never thought I'd do.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'll add that the founder of the theory of Natural Selection and the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin was a Christian, as was the Catholic cleric that first proposed the Big Bang theory. Isaac Newton was a Christian, and I could go on but you're not really worth it.

My husband (a pastor) once got out of bed at 3:00 am to cut a teenage boy down from a tree after he had tried to hang himself. I've also watched him hold a drug addict going through withdrawals so the man would not hurt himself more.
I could go on and on. He didn't do these things because he wanted to, he did them because he is a Christian following in Christ's footsteps.

Cyril and Methodius created the cyrillic alphabet, bringing literacy to North-eastern Europe.
The monks copied and preserved the Western European classics through the Dark Ages.
The first modern scientists were all Christians. (They didn't have much choice.)

This has to be the stupidest question I have seen on here. I don't think even the most jaded atheist would deny Christians do good. But just to satisfy your question. My church went to a homeless shelter, that is run by a Christian organization, and fed the homeless.

Feed, shelter and clothe people that no one else will. Although these same people are eager to take anything they have left from them. Then have the audacity to blame God for it, ( famine, disease, and violence).
