For the most part when people talk about Mormons, they are referring to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are called Mormon because of our belief in The Book of Mormon: another Testament of Jesus Christ.
There are splinter groups- who have broken off from the LDS church- they sometimes call themselves Mormon too- but they are Not LDS.
I think people hate because they don't understand us. Much of the hatred comes from people believing information that they hear, that is not true- much of what you read here is not true.
If you really want to know what the Mormons are all about- visit www.Mormon.org or www.LDS.org

If you mean the term: "Mormon," that is a nickname given to Christians that belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Members of this church believe in the Bible as being the word of God, as well as another testament of Christ, called the "Book of Mormon." Because they also believe in the Book of Mormon as well as the Bible, the nickname "Mormon" came to be.
The Church believes that through an apostasy, or falling away, Truth was taken from the earth. That Truth was restored again through a latter day prophet. His name was Joseph Smith and Mormons believe that we have prophets today just like in Biblical time,s ie Noah, Moses, Abraham.
Mormons also believe that families can live together forever, in the next life after we die. These blessings of eternity are afforded us through the gift and glory of Christ's atonement and through the performance of eternal marriage ordinances in holy temples.
Why do people hate them? I cannot say. I don't as I am one of them. Have been my entire life. Many people "fear" what they do not understand fully.

I think you mean "mormon"...we are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were nick-named mormons because of our belief in the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ.
Why do people hate us? I don't know. I think a lot of people that don't really know anything about us, that just listen to rumors or gossip or falsehoods are the ones who don't "like" us... most people who truly know what we believe know that we are just normal people trying to live by the gospel.
If you ever have any questions about our beliefs, I would be happy to answer any.
****The answers above me - perfect example of people who don't really know what we believe, but have "heard" we believe this or that and they just think that's what we believe in...

A "Mormon" is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The faith was founded by a shady character named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have found some magical golden plates that an angel taught him to translate.
The results were The Book of Mormon.
Mormons believe many crazy things, just like members of other religions do.
One of the crazier things Mormons believe is that the American Indians were the ten lost tribes of Israel.
As to the hate, I can't answer to that. Why does anyone hate anyone?
