I might be the exception to the stereotype that all atheists or nonbelievers are evil or maybe that stereotype is complete bull$#!T. But I can honestly say this

I do think of others and not just me
I dont screw others over that way they've screwed me over
I dont drink or smoke
I dont hate gays or women who get abortions
I dont judge others without knowing them
I wouldnt take advantage of drunken girls
And in real life I actually respect other peoples beliefs, although I may voice my opinion on some things, but I dont tell them theirs is wrong or that they're full $#!T or that theyre evil.

And the only bad things I do, tend to do, or have done is

satisfy myself too often(you know what I mean)
lie to cover myself up or someone else
and I used to really bash on religion here a lot for fun(nothing serious) but even now I dont do that. Granted I will state what I think is wrong and what I disagree with but I dont bash like I used to if at all.

Am I the only one who has morals even though they're not religious or are there other non-religious or non-believers that also have morals regardless and dont need a book to tell them whats right and wrong.

Actually, what is Amazing is that Mankind over the Centuries is still trying to "Excuse / Beg Off" their Behavior as being "Normal" byPointing the "Finger" at Others (Christians) in a Feeble Attempt at "Self Justification"!!! Seems they want to "Forget" that Scripture says "For ALL have Sinned & Fall Short of the Glory of God"!!! I do Agree that "Religion" is Evil, but bear in mind, Christ did Not Establish Any Religion, just Died for our Sins, Past Present & Future!!! John

Ultimately, there is nothing that keeps the atheist back from any act---except self-preservation. I've met all too many atheists ready to bed someone when they're attracted intellectually and stimulated physically. That wasn't the case with christians. I didn't want to be a part of this subjective morality and that is why I've never gotten involved with atheists in this manner because because because... subjective morality will never last. Hey, just honest reply here!

Morality has to include more than just good deeds. It has to also include a rational motive. Do we consider a person to be moral if they only do their good deeds under threat of punishment? Or if they do them because they seek a reward? I don't think so. The former I would call a coward and latter a sycophant.

I can train a mouse to do good deeds. Does that make the mouse moral? No, morality has to include a rational motive.

So what is your rational motive for all the good things you've listed? They sound praiseworthy. Is it the imagined praise that is your motive?

its an interesting point, that i agree with. I have found in my own experience, that some of the most manipulative backstabbing people were ones that I knew from church, and that most of the people who I can trust are not religious at all. I think that a person should be know by their character and moral upstanding rather than their religious beliefs.

Who do you ask for help when you figure you that your close relative is about to die? Who can listen to you when the whole world does not like you or even cares about what you think? Morals are not bound to religion. You gain morality as soon as you enter a civil society. But you know something, if you dont have faith you can never have the balls to face death. The chains which are imposed upon us are not imposed by religion, they are imposed by the society around us. As the famous writer J.J. Rousseau said "Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains". It is better to be a believer than to be a non-believer. I did not intent to hurt your feelings. I just wanted to share my viewpoint. Adios.

Well, that's because people think pure belief is enough. I think a good Christian (Just an example, there are good Muslims, Jewish people, etc. ) would do more than just believe in Christ, he'd follow Christ's way in helping others and not persecuting people.

Some of what you say is great. I applaud you for your openness. However when you start stereotyping some of the believers, then that is as bad as the believers bashing you.

If you had more morals and were such a wonderful person, why would you be hanging out in this section trying to justify the fact that you're atheist? Do you think we need to hear about your non-belief, or that its the most important thing in our lives that you don't believe? Sorry, but its your choice, just not my problem and frankly, I just don't care.

Do you really think coming to this section just to bash religion shows your good moral character? Get real.

i 100% agree with you. i cant stand when people try and shove their belifs down my throat. my friends are all very respectful of what i believe and vice versa, but people have told me if i dont go to church and worship god then im going to hell. they are so stung up on their "belifs" that they dont realize I DONT believe that, so its not threatining. i have no problem with religion, for other people, but i do have a prople with people trying to convert me because im wrong

yeahh i'm agnostic though i used to be catholic... well i was "raised" catholic. haa we are just smarter that's all. and actually the reason that initially made me turn away from believing was all of the hypocrites that i would see doing lines of coke on saturday night and then at church on sunday acting like they were saints... i just dont get it.
