just curious, is that the standard. Is it okay to be in a serious relationship and still contact old flings to hang out???

I keep in touch with SOME of my old flings & girlfriends -- but only if things ended on "good" terms. If they turned into raving psychobitches from hell ... I throw out their number and block 'em from my phone.

I believe it's pretty common to hang onto that old "blackbook" of old partners / lovers / dates ... I know of some couples that have "blackbook burning parties" when they get engaged. (*laughing*)

There is nothing wrong with it so long as the old sexual relationship is over and you are just friends now. I have remained good friends with some of my old partners and the fact that we used to be intimate has added depth to the friendship but is no longer an issue between us. We feel as though we know each other very well but we don't want to go back there.
The tricky part is should the new partner know. In a lot of cases, it is probably better left unsaid.

If I am friends with someone who was once a sexual partner, why should I abandon them as friends when I start dating someone else?

i think at 30+ it is very common for people to stay in touch, most likely at that age they have developed more mature way of looking at things and have a more mature understanding of life and friendships and a different respect for each other.
