because believe it or not, some people do not realize how poorly they spell
or simply can't be bothered
or simply intend on using short remarks which they think impress some of the others who speak the same language

1. They forget it's there.
2. They haven't been properly trained on how to use it.
3. Spellcheck itself works inconsistently.
4. Some people still don't understand how to add words to the dictionary.
5. Some people believe because they're using a computer, especially for e-mail, they no longer need to spell correctly, because e-mail is considered informal communication. Emoticons for example.
6. Spellcheck gives options not necessarily answers.
7. People get lazy.
8. People often in a hurry.

My spelling is better than spell check. Spell check cannot determine if the correct word should be there, their, or they're.
Unfortunately, spell check was programmed by those educated recently. I graduated from high school in 1976 and college in 1980.
As far as I'm concerned, spell check is as worthless as our 22 year old secretaries at work. That is my biased, sexist, homophobic, educated, honest opinion.

Because today's emphasis is on simply "the doing," not on "the correctness of it." Add the prospect of winning something of general value partly based on the simple convention of correct spelling, then you'll see a dramatic improvement in grammar, too.
Yahoo Answers is observably wise in recognizing and implementing this useful device in an effort to help us communicate better. Kudos to Yahoo and responders who take the time to use it.
Now, if you have read Brenda's thought-provoking question and want to provide intelligent answers to other interesting questions, it will serve us (writers and readers) tremendously if readers, particularly, aren't distracted by needless spelling errors. OK!
Who knows, someone from anywhere in the world may want to contact you because of your inspiring question or answer. So, put on your best writing.

I always use it if I know I spelled something wrong, but most of the time, my spelling is correct to start with. I think it needs to be updated a bit and with so many people using abbreviations and anagrams instead of words, it makes it kind of difficult to use.

That's how they live their lives. They've never learned to spell and don't feel it's important. These are the same people who insist on using bad grammar.
