Actually, lice love clean hair too. If you or your child get it there is a shampoo called RID, all kinds of chemicals to kill them. You can also saturate the scalp with the liquid form of the soap called Cetaphyl, found at your local grocery store, Walmart and Target, and I know they sell bulk at Costco. This soap for whatever reason suffocates lice. I would opt for this sollution instead of putting pesticides on my childs head.

Some of those normal products, like Nix and Rid, no longer work because the lice have become resistant to it. Another method that really works is to soak the head in rubbing alcohol. (Remember, alcohol is flammable.) Be careful not to get it in the eyes. Then rinse out and shampoo with regular shampoo. After that, use a good lice comb to remove the nits. Also, of course, do all the routine things like washing the bedding and hair accessories.

Here is a non-toxic all natural home remedy (vinegar is one of the ingredients)especially designed to rid lice infestations in children's hair: (from the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine) 1. Carefully brush the child's head with a mixture of 3 parts olive oil and 1 part lavender essential oil. * First apply to a small area to test for allergic sensitivity or skin reaction. * The hair should be saturated with the olive oil mixture and a shower cap put on for 5 hours. * The olive oil clogs the breathing pores of the lice and they can't hold their breath for more than 4 hours. 2. Follow this by an apple cider vinegar rinse to unglue the nits from the hair. * Nits or lice eggs are fairly small and can be pearly to grey in color. 3. Then, using a fine-tooth comb, parents should comb the child's hair meticulously to remove the lice eggs from the hair shaft. 4. And finally, wash the child's hair with a natural shampoo. Once completed, check the child's hair every other day for the next 10 days, and if needed repeat the treatment. ( You could try adding a few drops of tea tree oil in the vinegar rinse for extra strength)

the only way to get rid of headlice apart from using chemicals each week is for responsible parents to check their kids hair every single night-then if lice are found conditioner and comb out-yes i know this is a very tedious and time consuming job and thats why a lot of parents dont bother-also girls hair especially should be worn up away from the face with headbands or clips-my daughter could sit on her hair at 4 but the week before she started school i got it all cut off into a bob-shes 10 now and has only had them 3 times-when i went to school u were sent home if u had lice and told to come back when they were gone nowadays the most a school can do is send everyone in the school a letter home-some parents are responsible like me unfortunately a lot arent.

I do not know of any to get rid of it, but I do know something that helps prevent it. Lice like clean hair it is not a dirty persons affliction. I have always put a little mousse or something in my kids hair, the cheap kind does not do anything to it, it simply is not "clean". My niece had lice for 3 months straight and my sister was at her wits end, once she finally got rid of them she started doing this and she did not have a problem for the rest of grade school or high school of course. Just put a little in after every wash while it is damp.

I like to mix half vinegar, half conditioner in a bottle and work it thru, leave it on for about 5 mins and use a FLEA comb (not a lice one) and comb the hair out.

Don't laugh, but, Mayonnaise kills them. It coats their bodies and they die. Leave it in for a couple hours and cover the head with a shower cap to make sure they don't crawl out. Use is the cheapest brand you can find.

The normal products are fine. The problem persists when you don't follow thru with treatment of furniture, bedding, throw pillows, etc. Even the carpet if your kids lay on the carpet to watch tv. You want to treat hats & helmets too.
