Do you know people who have tried to come over here legally?
Many times, if you fill out all the paperwork and pay all the fees (which go into the thousands of dollars per set of paperwork and must be periodically renewed) it can take immigration services literally YEARS to catch up with whats been applied for. If you were legally living in the country and attempt to extend your stay according to the legal time-frame, you'll probably find yourself being "illegal" for a year or more while you wait for the government to catch up.
Our legal immigration quotas are rediculous and the process has become increasingly redundant, expensive, and delayed over the last few years.
Fix the system and make it easier for otherwise law-abiding people who want to work to come over here and pay taxes. Lord knows we have enough Americans who don't want to or need to work (Out of a population of roughly 330 million legal and non-legal residents, we had about 120 million tax returns last year.)
Whoah - I think thats the most thumbs up I ever got in the immigration section. Was I clear enough that I support government policies to make immigration easier? lol

No I am not necessarily FOR illegal immigration. I do think that they should try to come over legally but in most cases that is not possible. It takes alot of money that they do not have which is why they want to come over anyway. It is so hard for immigrants to get their papers anyway, and yes while there are the people who come over and do nothing but commit crimes there are ten times more people that come over because it is a matter of life or death.. I am sorry but if I lived in a place where all I made was five dollars a day or there were no jobs and my kids were hungry your damn right I would do ANYTHING that I had to to support them. Most people who support Ilegal Immigration support legal immigration but that is alot HARDER than anyone knows. I have spent over $3,000 and waited more than two years for my husband to come her legally and this still does not guarantee that he will be able to. I am not for people coming here illegally just because but I am not going to say something like line them up and shoot them that is just pure racist.
A Concerned Citizen....
you say that you don't buy that illegals do the work that Americans won't and that you mow your own lawn, change your own sheets, and etc... But do you pick your own food, Did you build your own house, Do the roofing on your own house? Probably not and those ARE the jobs that MOST americans will not do.
Here where I am from a group of roofers were working and two people from a HOMELESS SHELTER worked with them for a few days until they decided that they weren't getting paid ENOUGH and quit.

I respect the right of any underpriviledged person wanting to better his economical situation. The Statute of Liberty says - "Give me your tired, your poort, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...Send these, the homeless..." These people trying to get in, still see the US as the land of opportunity; they think the streets are lined in money. They come to work to better their situation, their families. If the entire world had no borders, I believe it would be more peaceful.
I am not a farmer or run a restaurant. I am an American citizen, born in Mexico. I have worked for 40 years of my life in an office. I go to Mexico often and see the poverty in which people live. Just because American companies are down there exploiting the workers, doesn't mean that things got any better. I know that the Mexican government is to blame for the lifestyle of my people. And those that come here and cross the border want something better for themselves and their children.
I have seen a lot of injustice on this side and that side of the border. We are all human beings - equal human beings. No one is better than anyone else. Some may be richer or more educated, but we are all the same.
Legal immigration takes a long time, more and more rules, regulations and costs go up every year.
See this scenario. I live near the Arizona/Mexico border and often go down to Nogales, Sonora. I go and take clothing to the poor. I go to the city dump where families live. There are dozens of children there. At least 1/2 of them are AMERICAN citizens - born here, but their parents were deported for not being here legally and now the kids are down there scrounging for something to eat. Do you think that is right? Why can't the parents be afforded legal status so that these AMERICAN kids will have the benefits they are entitled too.
Or how about I have a friend who was a resident alien for 22 years. Got arrested on a DUI. First one. Immigration put a hold on him and shipped him back to Mexico. He has a wife, kids, grandkids that are all here, and he's living with a cousin in Mexico. One DUI in 22 years! Do you think that is fair? What if an Irishman got a DUI? Or a Frenchman?
I don't approve of terrorists coming in, but if we didn't but our nose where it didn't belong and keep trying to solve other countries problems instead of our own, we might not be terrorized.
You know, Mexicans come here and dig ditches, clean toilets, work the fields, cook your food. They are willing to take all the jobs Americans don't want. Some Americans would prefer to be homeless and beg for food and shelter, or go on welfare than do an honest days work for $6.75 an hour. Why? Because $6.75 an hour = about $1000 a month. How can anyone support a family on $1000, when you can't find an apartment for under $600.
Legal or Illegal, we should all have the same rights. The right to have food, shelter and clothing for ourselves and our families.

Yeah, rich liberal Hollywood types that think because an illegal mows their lawns or changes their silk sheets, that they should be granted "a path to citizenship". Of course, the gardener and maid's extended family MUST be brought to the good old U.S. too.
I own a modest home, no mansion for sure, but I mow my own lawn, clean my own pool and change my own linen sheets.
I am one American who does not buy into the "just doing jobs that American's won't do". It's a bunch of crap. Just like the kind I pick up in my back yard...another job us Americans won't do.

There are plenty of people that are pro-illegal immigration.
The ones who hire them, and benefit from the cheap labor that they provide.
If they sent them all home, then their cheap labor would dry up.
If they allowed them all amnesty - then they wouldn't be illegal anymore, and would start demanding a living wage, and health benefits (not to mention that they would stop working 12-14 hour days).
It's kind of a catch-22 for right-wing republicans who run businesses that profit on cheap illegal labor...

No one is in favor of encouraging illegal immigration. However, some people think that illegal immigrants should be treated like human beings.
Hope that clarifies.

I'm not pro-illegal anything. I just think a lot of the anti-illegal immigration argument is based on ignorance and racism. I support legal immigration and not just for people from Europe and Asia, and not just for the wealthy. My family didn't come over on the Mayflower, nor am I Native America, so I don't have any right to tell anyone else they can't come here.

If you find a live one let me know. Hardly anyone has the courage to say they support the illegal invasion program that President Bushshit promoting in conjunction with liberals.
It's like holding up a sign at a busy intersection that reads "let's murder innocent harmless little babies. Vote Clinton! or Guiliani?"
Anyone who is actually there on those positions would likely spin it differently.
