My own preference goes to highly peated Scotch whiskies like those made on Islay.

This said, I am not adverse to a good bourbon or the higher grades of Jack Daniels, and I have a weakness for rye whiskey.

Good whisky deserves to be taken neat, only the very strong can stand dilution with a little mineral water. I avoid ice, it numbs taste, and if I'm to have a booze and coke or similar mix, I'll use only cheap liquor for that, and usually not whisky (except for coffee, that goes well with bad whisky)

Whiskey sour or mint julip. Whiskey sour is whiskey or bourbon, sweet and sour mix, I like a little sprite (like a splash), bar sugar, and a cherry. Mint Julip is bourbon, fresh mint muddled with sugar and seltzer. Yummy!
