yes it is true....the stuff you learn in class is what's the truth.Oxogen burns the fat,so the harder you breath and sweat, the more fat you are burning.but if you do it too hard and go over you max heart rate then you're doing yourself a dis-service and burning your muscle. I remember a women in the lockeroom at my gym telling me that. you find your min HR and your max HR and go in the middle. you'll see better results and then you should do some resistence training(lifting weights) to retain your muscle. If you do a lot of cardio you will lose muscle. you shouldn't do more than 45 mins of it per day.
I used to punish myself. I'd go on the treadmill for as long as I can, and went as crazy fast as I could and I could do it for an hour because I have a very strong cardio endurance but it's no good because I wouldn't lose weight that way.
You think the faster I go, the more caliores I burn the more weight I lose, since about 3500 cals equal one lbs. But your body doesn't respond well to that.
so take it easy, eat well and you'll get there. working too hard like that, even if it's easy or you like it that way, it's not going to get you the desired results. You don't want to go into anarobic mode, you want to stay in Aerobic mode and then do some weight lifiting. do a balance and everything will be much better.

You can't burn fat here and there like we would all love to but if you do cardio and a full body work out you will burn fat and tone your whole body. Try to find workouts that require the most muscles like dead lift, bench, power clean, incline press, and decline press. Dumb bells are awesome too. Look for a workout guide with pictures and steps so that you can execute the lift properly. Improper lifting can mean serious injury and wasting your time. The more muscle you have the more fat is burned because muscle requires energy to maintain. So what I'm trying to say is get your whole body in shape and you will achieve your goal in less time than if you focused on just you arms and legs. Hope this helps

Your body gets it's energy by first burning off carbohydrate stores. Then it starts to burn fat. However, everyone has quite a lot of fat stores (even if you're slim), so it would take a lot of continuous exercise to burn off all your fat. If this happens then yes, you do move into protein catabolism, ie burning muscle tissue. But before this happens you would have finished training and eaten probably, and so you would have added carbs to your body, ready for the next exercise. So don't worry.

don't people running races run as fast as they can all the time? I think your body will burn any available fat before it burns muscle.

you have to increase your heartrate in order to burn fat. you only burn muscle if you have used up all your fat reserve in the body. your body holds on to fat in case of starvation. the faster your heart pumps the more sugar that is release from skeletal muscle, burning ATP...only when that is used up, is when you start burning muscle.

Not true only if you really over do it and don't give muscles time to heal and do not consume enough protein then they start to cannibalize themselves.
