You probably won't get the original back, the machine automatically destroys it. Contact your bank branch and they will issue a new card.

Contact the bank you lost it at plus call your own bank to find out why it was taken. If you have a card that is closed, they will take it at the machine, and you will not get it back. Sometimes if you put the wrong pin number in it will take the card because it appears to be stolen.

if the card has been kept for because of lack of funds or the account has been run badly, the bank will not reissue you you're card, if the reason is that you've just left it in the machine and forgotten to take it, as long as you take ID with you to the bank you should have i returned to you. if the card has flagged up being lost and stolen' on the internal journal roll of the machine(you wont see this) you wont get it back either. god luck!

If your card was "captured" by the ATM it means that the bank that issued your card requested the card to be returned. You need to contact your bank and find out the reason why.
In some cases the ATM will issue a receipt with a code on it that you can give to the bank and they will let you know what it means.

Banks are not able to return the card to you once its eaten by the ATM machine. There is a reason the card was captured and once researched if they need to return the card to you they need to order a new one and have it sent to you.

That happened to me recently while I was abroad. I was told the bank destroys the card or sends it back to the bank you are registered with. I don't know which is true.
