If you are not heavy enough, then the procedure is not for you. That is why they put weight minimums on procedures like that otherwise you may get real sick.

Gastric bypass is completely a last resort for people who haven't been able to lose weight any other way. I know of people who have had serious problems because of the surgery.

I do know one man who recently had the surgery and was delighted with the results. He weighed about 400 pounds when he had it in December, and now weighs about 180. But it takes a lot of discipline even after the surgery. He could not eat anything for a few weeks after the surgery--all he could have were protein drinks. A month or two later he was up to a small amount of soft food (about 1/2 cup) to go along with it. If he had more than that at one time, he would just get sick. If that's what someone who is PLEASED with the surgery has to go through, I'd rather stick to dieting. Try the diabetic diet--basically, you eat only what is on the food pyramid, in small portions. You eat 3 small meals plus three snacks. By spreading it out over the course of the day, your body never stops metabolizing food, so it never goes into "starvation" mode--trying to conserve energy because it thinks it's not receiving enough food.

What I think about Gastric Bypass surgery:
Pointless IF a person does not plan on changing their food intake and change their non-working out habits. If a person goes to surgery extremes, they should mean it by doing the right things for their body afterwards.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as Bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
