Let me fill you in on the best way to achieve your goal of becoming a Pilot.
Entry to the Airlines is competitive. I took flying Lessons after School and became an Instructor to accrue the hours required. I completed 2 Unit Maths and Physics, and once I logged 500 hours command time I was eligible to apply for Qantas.
I was accepted into Qantas and have been a First Officer for two years, I am 32 years of age.
Here is my advice:
Study the highest level of Maths and take Physics at School.
Learn as much as you can about Flying, Airlines want someone who lives and breathes Flying, forget about the high pay. Once your working Shift work and all over the place, the money won't matter you have to love what you do.
Once you have the education, the cheapest way to learn to Fly is through the Military. If that's not an option, go to a Flying School and undertake all training through to ATPL.
Once completed, become an Instructor as I did to accrue the hours. Check with the Airlines to find out the minimum.
Qantas is 500 hours command in multi engine.
My best advice is to persist and be confident.
Airline recruitment have then own selection tests which you will also have to pass. They also want return on investment, the younger the Pilot the better.
Life as an Airline Pilot can be boring, long delays on the Tarmac and stuck in the Cockpit for long hours.
All this aside, I love my job and it was all I ever wanted to do.
If you feel the same, you should have no problems achieving your goal.
Good luck!

For about $3-4000, you can learn to fly and get a sports pilot license. This lets you fly a class of airplanes called "light sport aircraft" without getting a medical certificate. After that, you can move up to private pilot, multiple engine rating, instrument rating, instructor, transport pilot, commercial pilot, and more. Check the link below to start learning about this.
For comparison, a private pilot rating will cost you $6-8000, and take much longer.
Any place that teaches people to become a private pilot can teach you to be a sport pilot, but many of the instructors don't know this. You may need to show them details of what's involved, where the rules and regulations are, etc. Also, at some point you'll need some time in a light sport aircraft. You can take some of the training in a certified aircraft, but not all. Finding these has been the problem lately, as these haven't penetrated the market yet as much as the traditional aircraft. Search the site below, though, and you may find someone near you that teaches and has a LSA to fly.

Well, the first place you could go is to your local airport. Find the FBO, usually one of the main buildings, and ask if they offer flight lessons. Then talk with an instructor and see if you can do a discovery flight. A good instructor will go over how much it will generally cost and how long it will take you to get your license.
Also check out this website: http://www.aopa.org/learntofly/index.html
That is the website for the aircraft owners and pilots association. They are THE best source of information and help in the U.S.
Have fun and good luck.

Depends on what you want to fly. First find a pilot who gives flying lessons and go from their. If you are thinking of flying military jets then look into the Air Force Academy.
