What I don't understand is why people are more willing to listen to the uneducated masses then to brilliant scientists. I mean you don't get advice on your heart transplant from your deranged cousin Cletus.

They say that 2 people discuss, and 3 argue. It takes a 3rd telling one side or the other that they are right in order to kick it into an argument. Even if the third is not present (mom, cleric, teachers, friends, whatever)
What you see is the difference between people discussing, or just spouting what they believe because someone told them that it was so ("we" are more than "you"). Thats true from both the religious or the scientific. Ive seen some no-fact fire-and-brimstone "just because its true" preaching come from both sides.
I kindof expect it from the religious folk. At least they know what faith means. But I find it very irritating from the "Im educated" folk.
