"A massive immigration demonstration in Irving is resonating in Central Texas. More than 2,000 protestors turned out to demand an end to a police program that's led to a high number of deportations.

Now Austin is enacting that same program.

Irving started participating in the Criminal Alien Program last year. It allows police to check the immigration status of anyone they pull over and send people here illegally straight to Immigration and Customs Enforcement."

What do you think?

Do these protests help their cause?

Hey, Mando, you keep asking why whites live there, and I keep expecting you to give an answer.... (sort of like 'why did the chicken cross the road?') but you never do...

No, the protests are backfiring on them.

Personally I like it when the pro-illegal crowd holds public protests. Every time they have one of these, Anti-Illegal sentiment increases and more people get involved on the Anti side.

I think they serve to emphasize the problem and make other areas more aware of how effective such programs can be.
Good for Austin. All areas of the US should follow Irving's example.
It also brings to light the depth of the interference of the Mexican government with US enforcement of immigration law. The Mexican Consul Enrique Hubbard Urrea issued a warning for Mexican's to avoid Irving, TX. The consulates are continuously protesting and interfering with the states and communities efforts to combat illegal immigration. Isn't that overstepping their boundaries, since they are a part of Mexico's federal government and should only be negotiating with federal authorities here. By our federal law, states are forbidden negotiation with foreign governments, which is reserved for the federal government. How long before they protest Austin's measure?
Demanding cessation of law enforcement does not further their cause. It only shows their arrogance in believing they are above our laws and that we are not entitled to our sovereignty.

I think it's fantastic and I think the entire U.S.A. should adopt what Irving has done. The protestors should be rounded up and their identifications checked. After all, we have to get permits to protest and demonstrate and parade so why shouldn't they have to submit proof of citizenship and the right to protest?

And, no, their protests don't help their cause. They reinforce the law-abiding citizens rights to demand that the laws be enforced and they show just how badly our government has screwed up.

Unfortunately I think the protest don't help, I also think that the Police should not do ICE's job. I read this article on my local newspaper about a man who is a reporter for a small newspaper, he was doing a report on how dirty the city was and things people can do to improve it- when he notice there was a body in a black garbage bag in one of the trash bins, this man and his boss notified the police, and the police questioned him about his legal status- the reporter is illegal and now is facing deportation. So the message that is sending is that when an illegal is a witness or knows of a crime- they wont give any information because they will be too scared of being deported....

Hurt, definitely...

The protesting has not exactly worked out the way they had intended for the past year or two, in fact it is having the opposite effect, one would think they would rethink their battle plan....Wonder how I could convince those protesters to come to Virginia?

Excellent idea. Who cares what pro-illegal protesters think.
Hopefully they'll do this in California A.S.A.P

This will also catch the undocumented "middle easterners" wink, wink

I hope not. I guess Kennedy and others that want amnesty can no longer use the ploy that the illegals are hiding in the shadows and need amnesty to bring them out in the sunshine
