Christians, is there BIG sin and LITTLE sin. Or is sin just sin?
And if so, and things like greed, gluttony, lying, drunkeness, fits of rage, hatred, gossip are sins that are no more EVIL than homosexuality, why don't you pay the same attention to them? Especially since, those other biblical sins ACTUALLY have a disastrous impact on society and families RIGHT NOW.
Perhaps my two lesbian neighbors having kids and a family, adversely affects YOU, but it doesn't harm my family or others. But I can see how gluttony, drunkeness or lying can damage ANY family/society.
So, where is the mass moral OUTRAGE for these biblical sins? Where are the Christian protests and campaigns against lying fraudulent corporations, gossip mags, hate groups, booze advertising, greedy televangelists etc.
Are you only fired up when it comes to things that conveniently play into the existing prejudices of your community?
Isn't treating one sin with more severity than others, moral relativism?

My biblical reference for calling those other things sins are:
Gluttony- Prov 23:21, Ecces 10:18, Rom 13:13, Phil 3:19 and 1 Pet 4:3.
Drunkeness- 1Cor 5:11, 1Cor 6:10, Gal 5:21, Rom 13:13
RAGE & HATRED: Eph 4:31 and Matt 5:22 (There are actually over 100 more scriptures condemning hatred and rage)
GOSSIP- 1 Peter 4:15, Prov 11:13, Jam 4:11, 1 Tim 3:11 and 5:13 and 14.
LYING-Rev 21:8 and Eph 4;25
GREED & MATERIALISM- Matt 19:23-24, Luk 16:14, 1John 3:17.

whitehorse, the arguement is not whether or not it is considered a sin or not.
I accept that Christians consider homsosexuality a sin. You also consider idolatry a sin. Hindus and pagan beg to differ on that. Yet we do not see you trying to take our rights away or protesting outside our places of worship or our festivals, even though you believe we are sinning.
Why? Why pick on gays on a large, public and legal scale, when you won't pick on other people you also believe to be sinning? What is the REAL reason?

excellent question....
I think it is easier for people to focus on the sins that do not affect them...it draws attention away from their own lives...it is a coping mechanism...so they do not have to focus on bettering themselves.
unfortunately, many religious people have become self-righteous hypocrites...they have lost out in life...so, they join church to become someone...so, they can feel justified in their judgement of others...and so they can feel like winners.....most religious folks, are not Godly at all

Christians are sinners too, and a true believer will not deny this. And no, we cannot sin again and again if we believe. We are "held" back from it, or shown the error of our ways, our conscience being our witness. We choose then to repent, and seek forgiveness, and vow not to do it again. If we do it again after all of that....then we will be taken through hell, before we are forgiven. Many people that like to "claim" Christ as their saviour are just hiding (they think) under a veil of righteousness. These are those that would give Christ a bad name, and blaspheme his holy name. They have their reasons I am sure. But try not to look on these as your example to follow. Read the Word for your self, then do as you understand. You will be led to the true believers, and find that those that you have seen, mentioned above, are of little consequence to the true christians. God has reasons for those types as well. I think it may be to sift out the true seekers, and those that would only look at the surface, or those that would look to man as their example, rather than to the Word of God.

All sin is bad to God. The main difference in todays world is. Those other sins do not make good news stories. How man alcholics or drug addicts are there standing up and saying I want my rights to drink and do drugs?

I think the only reason you see so much conflict in the area of homosexuality is because it is the only area of those mentioned where society refuses to even believe it is a sin in the first place. No one is confronting us regarding the sin of drunkeness....we all band together to denounce it and establish drunk driving laws, AAA programs etc. However, as soon as you preach a verse regarding homosexuality it is referred to as "hate speech" - hence, the conflict and controversy arises.
*edit: point well made. I wouldn't say moral relativism, however, because we still hold to one distinct standard of right and wrong. All those things are still wrong (drunkeness, gluttony, etc). (As opposed to "what is true for me is not true to you"). However, why we seek to incorporate civil laws in the area of marriage but not idol worship, I would say, perhaps in disagreement with many Americans, that we are traditionally a Christian nation. And the state ought not sanction anything opposed to God's word because of the covenant relationship we have with God established by our forefathers. Therefore, while I don't feel it is the right of the state to intrude on people's freewill (whether telling them homosexuality is against the law in the privacy of their own homes or whether attempting to prevent them from going to a Hindu temple), it ought not put its stamp of approval on a marriage between two people of the same sex. Does that make sense?

I think a lot of is because whipping up a congregation into fits of hatred against the "other", whoever & whatever it is, almost inevitably results in more contributions, more influence, more activism, and more butts in pews on Sunday morning.

Christians use universal ideas of morality as a front for their dogma. The immoralities most of us can agree upon- deception, violence, stealing etc... are used to bury within their mix such things as homosexuality, atheism, sex before marriage etc,,, which are nothing but religious dogmas.

Christians are not the judge of sin. Why ask men about sin? Thats asking the blind to lead the blind.

Addtionally, there is divorce, which Jesus specifically spoke against - and Jesus himself did not say anything about homosexuality.
So one has to wonder why no one is trying to outlaw divorce, since their deity (and not just a bunch of sidekicks) specifically said it's wrong.

Absolutely.
It's all relative to how much they personally dislike the "sin".
