I'm female... just in case you were going to give a funny answer!
I'm 37 and applying for jobs (in law offices) after having 2 years off for my family. I haven't had a proper job interview since I was in my early 20s and, although very confident of my skills, I'm completely petrified of making myself look a fool in the interview.
I normally never wear skirts, and wondered if it would look unprofessional to wear a smart trouser suit to an interview.
A sensible answer to this would remove one small worry!

I just want to apologise for over-using the word "interview" in the question.... obviously a bit of a trigger word, lol!

The key is to look professional and show the interviewer that you care about what they think. You don't want to be uncomfortable, though. The interviewer can pick up on that. So if you don't feel comfortable in skirts, don't wear them.

I think you should wear the trouser suit for a job interview. That is because wearing trousers I think will make you look like you aren't trying to get to dressed up but you still want the job badly. But you should war whatever makes you feel comfortable. You don't to have to sit through an interview wearing a skirt when you have never worn a skirt before because you just could possibly make a total fool out of yourself and than you may not get the job at all. I would go with the pants. GOOD LUCK!!

YES.
I am female and I have NOT worn skirts at all for 10 years - not even to funerals. Trousers are perfectly acceptable, and in some places (especially male dominated environments) skirts are frowned upon and seen as a sign of weakness - SERIOUSLY.

This is 2007!! The days of pretty temps in the secretarial pool are over!!! Wear a nice pantsuit if that's what you're comfortable in. It makes no difference which you wear, both are professional and appropriate. Just make sure it is quality and updated. Don't wear the same pantsuit you wore when you were 20.

A smart trouser suit should not be a problem at all.
If you were talking about wearing jeans or casual trousers that would be different. But a trouser suit should absolutely be OK.

Good luck with the interview!

It is totally acceptable nowadays. Smart and presentable is the key.
However, if it makes you feel more confident then wear a skirt.

With a tailored blouse and jacket, trousers would be fine. Lawyers need good, experienced staff, so remember they want you as much as you want a job. Good luck.

Trousers? I think a stylish pantsuit would look very professional.

A professional-type pants suit would be OK, but not just nice pants and a blouse.
