Life-span is determined by several factors: genetics, general care, quality of health care, diet and environment.
Average age for Feral and outdoor only cats is unfortunately only about 4 years
Indoor/outdoor cats will average 8 - 10 years with a lot of luck and quality human care
Indoor only cats have a life expectancy of 18 - 25 years with record setters in their 30's.
The oldest recorded kitty lived to be Thirty-Four (34) - there are actually two with verifiable records one was a pedigreed Sphynx with detailed birth records the other a moggie with continuous veterinary records from kittenhood on.
There is also an unverified report of a 43 year old cat.

I am not sure what the average lifespan is, but we have had several live to over 20. One passed away at 23, the other 21. Also we had a couple 17-19 years old.

Like humans, it varies. Typically 10-16 years is how old they live depending on breed, but some get to 20, which is like 100 years old for people. Some get even older, and some unfortunately die young. But the good thing is their beautiful spirits always stay with you, so the bonding is worth it no matter how many years you have.

I have had three cats pass away at 13. Two from kidney failure and one from stomach cancer. I have had one pass away at age 10 from too much blood in her urine or the other way round. And I had one live to be about 21 and then passed from natural causes. But I do currently have a 17 year old who is still going strong.

The average is probably 15-18 for an indoor cat who is healthy. I have a 21 year old indoor cat.

It depends if it's an indoor or outdoor cat. Indoor cats can live well over 20 years. I knew a man that had a cat that was 25 years old and 30 pounds! Obviously an indoor cat. Outdoor cats are subjected to many life threatening things. The life span of an outdoor cat is much less than an indoor cat.

My oldest cat, Oreo, just died Sat., she was 18 1/2. However last year I had a 4 year old, Ernie, die from a congenital kidney problem, so cats get diseases just like we do, I had one at 10, die from cancer. I'd say if they are lucky to not get any diseases, about 12-15, average.
