They've been in the pan for 45 minutes now, but still don't look the right colour. Am I doing something wrong?

Hurry please. I'm very hungry.

well, if burgers have been in a pan for 45 minutes with the heat on (unless it was on low), then the meat is likely cooked, whether it looks the right color or not.

If you've pan fired the burgers, just make sure they are brown on the outside. Check by using a butter knife to cut a small slit to see how pink they are on the inside and remove them when they are cooked enough for you. Well done means no pink at all, medium rare still has pink in the center. To keep the burgers from burning, you should turn them every few minutes.

Make sure that the cooking heat source is about medium to medium high.

Good luck!

Oh dear, what a silly wife!

Turn off the pan, go and find a menu for a pizza place, or an indian, or chinese takeaway (they might be on the fridge, or on a clipboard in the kitchen) and phone up the number on the front and ask the nice people to bring you your burger. You might have to pay, but it's much cheaper than to burn down the house!

Oh poor you, it is very late now, you must be starving!

Turn the stove on to medium high and wait for it to get hot. Then cook them 6 minutes on each side.

By the way, you fry burgers, not boil them. If there is water involved you're doing it wrong. ;)

Or are you making boiled hams like Principal Skinner?

Ah, I know what you're doing wrong - you forgot to put your head in the pan as well and boil that for a bit.

Um.... When it turns a light pink color in the middle then it's medium rare, so if it's just alittle pink then cook it for another 5-10 minutes and then cut the burger in half and if it looks not pink anymore in the middle then it's done. and u can eat!

The water doesn't allow it to cook thoroughly like you are used to seeing. Pour the water out and the burger will get scorched and look like it's been cooked.

Erm...take them out, stick them under the grill, light the grill, leave for 10 minutes, turn and leave for another 8-10 minutes. Take them out and put them on a plate. Turn the grill off.

(Bless.)
