I just asked a question about my two front teeth and their gap. I am wondering if the person that responded to it earlier can tell me anything more. What would wearing my retainer full time for a month do? Could it move anything back? Also, what is a Frenecomy? I found some info online but it is misleading as it only talks about tongue-tied problems and the basic removal of tissue? Can you give me any more information about what I could have done for this to happen anyway. I definitely wore my retainer as I was told to. Thanks again, it would really awesome to just hear a little bit more on what you just said..

I didn't answer your original question, but allow me to chime in with my 2 cents....If you wear your retainer F/T for a month, your teeth MAY move back. They also might not enough which may cause you to get retreated with braces. Its worth a try to wear the retainer (if you can even get it on, if it is too tight, don't force it) first for a couple reasons...#1 takes less time, #2 less cost of retreatment. Also, the frenectomy thing, that is if you have a diastema. This is when you have excess tissue between certain teeth, most commonly the Upper teeth right smack in the middle of your front teeth. This can cause a large gap. When you get the frenectomy the dentist will "clip" a piece of the tissue off (very simple and relativley painless procedure) You would want to do this after you close the space to prevent too much scar tissue. Check out this site, its aways down on the list, just look for maxillary labial frenum and it talks a bit about the procedure. http://www.guideline.gov/summary/summary.aspx?doc_id=7499

If I also may suggest seeing your orthodontist to see if they can assist in the matter. They usually see patients of record for free or little cost to adjust the retainer and if they need to retreat you, they will present a treatment plan before proceeding with anything. good luck!

HELLO MICHAEL,
IT'S ALWAYS OKAY TO ASK QUESTIONS.
OFTEN TIMES A GAP OR SPACE BETWEEN YOUR UPPER 2 FRONT TEETH IS CAUSED BY HAVING FIBROUS TISSUE BETWEEN YOUR TEETH. BRACES AND A RETAINER MAY NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM.
AN UPPER LABIAL FRENECTOMY WOULD REMOVE THESE TISSUES CAUSING THE SPACE.
IT IS HOWEVER, IMPORTANT THAT THE TISSUES TO THE LEVEL OF THE BONE BETWEEN THE 2 FRONT TEETH BE REMOVED FOR THIS TO NEVER RETURN.
AFTER THIS SURGERY, THE RETAINER IS MOORE THAN ADEQUATE FOR BRINGING THE TEETH TOGETHER.
THE FRENECTOMY OFTEN MENTIONED INVOLVES A LOWER LINGUAL FRENECTOMY FOR THOSE WHOSE TONGUES ARE CONNECTED TOO HIGHLY TO THE LOWER TISSUES.
