How can an imaginary God oppress someone or control their life. My last question really seemed to bring this out. If you have no belief at all in God, how is so many think that their life is being affected in any way by something that doesn’t exist?
Lets keep this civil. So much anger at something that doesn’t exist? Whats that all about?
If the word God on currency, in schools, or on courtroom walls is so offensive, is it just that word that angers you? If there is no God, then what do you hate?

All creation knows that there is a God. you are right, why get up set over nothing? I don't believe in buddah, but I don't get bent out of shape over it. I don't believe in the tooth fairy, but I don't get bent out of shape over that either.

You notice it's not mohammad they are mad about, or buddah they are mad about, only the ideal of the one and True Living God.

It drives them crazy.

I assume that your asking ............If you believe that God is fictional, why does the mention of a fictional being inspire your anger ? I'm sure there aren't many people going around pissed of about seeing Mickey Mouse's name or image every where.

I personally don't believe in the "God" of traditional religions, however, the fact that many people do does not inspire my anger. Why should it? In fact, I am glad that so many people try to follow the directions of Jesus. It makes the world a better place. Why displaying the 10 commandments in public areas is cause for concern from anyone is beyond me. Who wouldn't want others to see and live by those?

It is very powerful. It is the source of theocratic (and irrational) governments from the very beginning of governments. It is the actions of blind dogmatics that affect the entire world.

Religious faithful don't seem to question the existence of God, they don't seem to think that maybe a religion that was founded when people thought the world was flat, and has been used for centuries to oppress or outright justify killing people, might just be one big fallacy.

If a tragedy the size of 9/11 is not evidence that belief that's different from yours can be powerful, then you are incapable of thinking outside of your little Christian box.

Things that do not exist have no power. People who believe that said nonexistent things exist DO have power. See the difference?

What angers me is that people allow religious beliefs into the laws of the land. Said laws can force even those who think it's all nonsense to live by a religions' rules.

Homosexual marriage is a prime example. Christians see homosexuality as a sin. That's fine. Don't be homosexual. But they can not stop there. They pass laws making it illegal for homosexuals to marry and defining marriage under the guidelines of their religion, thus forcing even those who do NOT believe it to be sinful to live by their religious beliefs anyhow.

So, no, your god does not exist and has no effect on me - but his followers do.

god doesn't exist but some people believe in god. Something does not have to exist for people to believe in it. Small children believe that a guy dressed in red with a white beard climbs down their chimneys at christmas and leaves them presents - but that doesn't make Santa Claus any more real.

People's lives are impacted by the beliefs of others irrespective of whether those beliefs are justified. Millions have died in the name of their belief in something that doesn't exist.

How powerful is something that doesn’t exist? powerfull enough to cause misery and death for thousands of years. I must say that when pagans were in charge the wasn't nearly as much suffering in the world.

Saying something isn't so doesn't make it reality. I've never "seen" gravity but it effects me everyday! Something sure keeps me from floating off.

No offense, but your personal opinion of God doesn't alter the fabric of the universe! You can attribute events in your life to whatever you choose, but you ain't necessarily right!

i agree. if you all would repent and accept Jesus into your hearts you would find out He is very real and still very much in control of this world. He loves you and even died for you so how can you NOT love Him with all your hearts and live your life for Him. you will only find peace in this world through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. i was a very messed up person until He came into my heart and now i am a true blue pentacostal who has the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. its the most exciting and amazing thing thats ever happened to me. i love the Lord with all my heart. try Him, you WILL love Him, besides what have you got to lose, just your souls. God bless you.

It is possible to believe in a higher power without believing in God. And that higher power can be as simple as the goodness in everyone as a whole.
