I am a woman and I want to try to do some work on the outside of my home myself.

There are a bunch of them on the market. Not sure what you saw on tv, but I suggest you look at Harbor freight tools.com and do a search on saws, you will find a variety of saws that can cut circles in almost anything. If you give me a better idea of what you want to cut, I will send you a picture of one. I have a bunch of different types at home. I am a tool junkie and use them for personal and proffesional use, good luck! By the way some of these are quite dangerous! be carfeful

It doesn't sound like you're going to need it for more than a few times.
You can get a small hole saw bit with a pilot drill that fits into a drill (cordless or power).
Your local home center has knowledgeable attendants in the small tools department (hopefully).
Tell them if you are drilling wood, metal, cement or other material´Good luck ! ! !

As a beginner, try a set of battery operated tools by Ryobi @ Lowes. A pretty good starter kit. Please be care full. Read all the safety directions for each tool. Do it right. Do it once
