Its crazy-thick, and tends to poof, to no avail. But I have heard that razoring or shearing it can cause damage, making you prone to breakage and split ends. Any thoughts?

no it won't damage your hair anymore than cutting it. but before and after any hair cut you should condition really well to prevent split ends anyway. cutting gets rid of split ends but if the hair is already damage or dry it can make new ones.

if a new blade is not used and they do not use the correct angle when cutting, split ends and breakage will occur
