I had heard about and now just read a story about how a liberal in the film commision board for San Fran denied access to the USMC's Silent Drill team use of a street to film a recruiting video.
San Francisco is, once again, the center of a controversy over how city leaders treat the U.S. military. This time, it involves an elite group of Marines who wanted to film a recruitment commercial in San Francisco on the anniversary of 9/11.
The tension has been building in the two weeks since the city turned away members of the Silent Drill Platoon, and it boiled over Monday afternoon at a meeting of the San Francisco Film Commission.
The U.S. Marine Silent Drill Platoon performed Monday morning in New York's Times Square. They filmed part of a recruitment commercial through the start of the morning rush hour -- something they could not do in San Francisco on the anniversary of 9/11.

"It's insulting, it's demeaning. This woman is going to insult these young heroes by just arbitrarily saying, 'no, you're not going to film any Marines on California Street," said Captain Greg Corrales of the SFPD Traffic Bureau.
Captain Greg Corrales commands the police traffic bureau that works with crews shooting commercials, TV shows and movies in the city. He's also a Marine veteran and his son is serving his third tour of duty in Iraq.
He says Film Commission Executive Director Stefanie Coyote would only allow the Marine's production crew to film on California Street if there were no Marines in the picture. They wound up filming the empty street and will have to superimpose the Marines later.

The Marines we spoke with also make the point that the city allows street demonstrations, anti-war protests and other events which snarl traffic, such as Critical Mass. They still don't understand why the Marines got turned away.

We asked Stefanie Coyote why they're not allowing the Marines to shoot on California Street. She wouldn't answer our questions.
At today's Film Commission meeting, she said she wouldn't let the Marines film because of rush hour.
"Traffic control was the issue," explained Stefanie Coyote.
However, the Marines would have just shut down one lane of California Street for a few minutes at a time, and Captain Corrales points out the Film Commission often approves shoots for rush hour.

They are out and out anti american. I think we should let them be non american.
This isnt their only time slapping the millitary in the face another part of the article
Captain Corrales and several other Marine veterans came to the Film Commission Monday afternoon. They see this as just the latest insult along with the city blocking the USS Iowa from docking here, banning the junior ROTC from high schools, and trying to ban the yearly Blue Angels air show.

Dragonlady Did you miss the part of the article where the police officer said that there were many times where the street was closed down during rush hour for filming of anti war messages and anti war protest. Where this same lady allowed it when it fit her beleifs. She denied it becuase they were marines.
Also it is the whole city, did you miss the part where they do not allow Junior ROTC, They refused a navy ship docking and attempted to ban the blue angels what message do you thing the city is trying to send

ADDITION OG you said it was a set up becuase the marines knew damm good and well they were not welcome. I dont agree but lets say that is true. Does that make it ok? Lets say Blacks know damm good and well they are not welcome in a certian town do you think we should just say "well they were told" no people would be outraged as they should be by this.

I am totally unsurprised at this type of behavior based on the fact that we are talking about San Francisco.
It seems to me that the people there are the first to DEMAND their rights and privileges as US citizens, yet they are unwilling to support those who put their lives on the line to grant those rights.
If that city did fall into the sea I honestly wouldn't miss it. Whenever there is a big disaster in a US city I always go and donate blood just to say I did something.
I dont think I would do that if a major earthquake hit SF, I honestly wouldn't care.

A misdemeanor? Try a fellony. #1 This is not a liberal view, it's actually a more rightest view of Libertarianism. #2 There are no health benifits of circumcision, you are reading a highly biased website. #3 Even if circumcision did have some benifit it's still wrong to alter someone elses body without their consent. I really don't care if circumcision has health benifits or not, I still don't appreciate that my genitals were mutilated against my will #4 circumcision does a ton of damage to the penis that results in very significant sensitivity and function loss. If you want to take away over half your feeling in your penis and not enjoy sex nearly as much as you would naturally just because you can't take a proper shower that's your decision, but you have no right to force that opinion on anyone else other than yourself. Educate yourself before acting like you know it all. -Connor

Don't know who thought San Fancisco Street would be good location for a recruitment Vidieo.
New York City, St Lewis,Chicago, San Antonio they are all better locations.
Seem's like someone would have given it some thought first as to the best locations.
I Don't know what street the city wouldn't close. But it seems like BS that it couldn't have been woked out. maybe filmed on a Sat or Sunday in the AM.
The Mayor of that City should be cut out maybe. but the city it self, No.

Well, I can see where the denial over the rush hour traffic issue could be valid. If the lady didn't let the USMC do their video because of a personal belief, then she should be fired. However, blaming a whole city & state for the possible mistake of one person is un-American.

It was a set up. The Marines knew damn good and well the politics of San francisco. They have done this as part of this new crusade to label anyone or anywhere as jihad lovers or insurgent lovers or worst of all a liberal. Besides it would seem more appropriate for them to film a video on 9/11 in new york.
