FYI- I believe in God. My stepson (17) recently made it known to me that HE does not believe in God. So, just out of curiosity, I wanted to see how persuasive an arguement can be made for the existence of God

My reason for believing that God exists is that I was taught growing up that there is a God! And I found no reason to dispute that.

God reveals Himself to us in many ways. By His Word, the Bible. The most read and published book in the world. Also by His creations. The computer you typed the question on is a wonderful piece of technology. It exist because someone created it. You have never met or seen this person. But just the fact you have the computer you believe they exist. Look at all the wonderful creations around you. They could not have happened by random. There was a creator. Just because we do not see something does not mean it does not exist.

A basic paradox in science is that there is no way to prove that any of this is real as opposed to being some elaborate illusion. But in order for science to proceed science must accept that there is some concrete form that is the basis for matter and that the system of things is some how related. A primer in quantum physics will assist in understanding this.

Even John Lennon in "Strawberry Fields Forever" wrote that "nothing is real..."

There is no thought, Religion, text, physical manifestation, or anything you could behold that would let you fully comprehend the awesome nature of God. None of us have that capacity.

But for these eyes, all that I see and behold points to him and reveals him in some way. Including you and your wonderful question.

Let us say I am the worlds greatest speaker and you are the worlds greatest painter. We are together at a beautiful river bank. I sit facing the river and you sit to my back facing the parking lot. My goal is to tell you about the beauty found on the opposite side of the river bank. While I describe the beauty of the flowers, birds, animals, tribal native people, trees and such, I never find the words to convey to you in a way that allows you to paint a picture that comes close to fullness of the beauty I behold. However, if I am able to move your eyes to experience the beauty for yourself, then you will be able to express your art in a way that is commensurate with your talent.

Prove God exist. I have no power to do that. I only have the power to experience God.

It is like proving to you what an orange taste like. Unless you taste it yourself you will never know. No words, pictures or substitutes will ever convey to you the taste of an orange.... Only in tasting do you know.

Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
B

The only things I get from these responses are the following:

1. A person must be willing to believe in a specific god with no evidence in order to "prove" that god real.

2. A person must appeal to ignorance or circular logic (the world is beautiful, the bible says so = it must be god)

3. Anyone who asks for evidence is not "ready" to receive proof for god.

Can the delusion get any worse?

The only consistent reason that I find people believe in a god is because they want to.

Eric: Ever heard of a spectrometer? A way to show the phenomenon or rainbows with a description of wavelengths that can be verified empirically, without human sight. Take ultraviolet or infrared light, for example. It's not the perception of light that makes it real -- it is evidence that it exists in the physical world -- in the same way that some people should be able to prove that god is an independent entity, and not simply a personal belief.

Also, repeatable observation is not a part of religious belief. There are over 3,000 different beliefs in god, and most are mutually exclusive.

Not that I normally believe in god, but when investigating the big bang theory, the probability of it happening the right way were the universe will continue expanding for more then 100 years is 1 in 14 trillion. But somehow it happened that way and life now exists. This raises the possibility of intelligent design in our universe but does not necessarily prove gods existence but puts god into question. Other scientists argue it may be that the big bang failed in all other "multiverses" of reality and we are lucky to be in the multiverse were the big bang was successful and life began on earth. There are infinite number of these multiverses that exist for every deviation in chance that could possibly occur in the progression of time . You have to remember science is agnostic in practice. Later tonight when I finish class Ill post links to abstracts by famous quantum theorists such as Steven Hawking that calculate and theorizes the plausibility of a "God". But science has not yet proven or disproven Gods existance.

Well I really don't think you can "prove" God exisists. You can't grab a piece of His hair and do a dna sample. However, there is ALOT of circumstansual(sorry for bad spelling) evidence. For instance. I find it rediculous that nothing exploded and became everything, or that we evolved from rocks, or that some soup bubbled over and monkeys came forth and eventually humans. I think it makes a lot more sence that there is an Inteligent Designer, who created life for His pleasure. (it also takes less imagination). He wanted to create something to Glorfiy Him, so He made earth, and all that is in it. He made man and animals to glorify Him by their Inteligent Disign. (of course, man messed up alot when he sinned in Eden but that's besides the point.) So we are here to Glorify Him, and to prove His Intelligence and Majesty. (just going outside away from a city and looking at the scenery makes you think if it really could have been chance.)

If you really want a good comprehensive answer to this question because you are serious then I recommend "Does God Believe in Atheists" by John Blanchard. I'll provide a link below. A simple posting here simply will not give you what you are looking for. The book is somewhat thick, but is a good easy read. I highly recommend it.

God is the source of life. The creation can only hint at the
creator, thus science can't prove God exists any more
than it can prove or disprove how life came to be in the
first place. Life and death is, in fact, a complete mystery
to science, science can observe but not explain life
and death or the concept of consciousness or soul.
It's not a scientific thing at all! It is a spiritual understanding.

That is like a blind man asking a scientist, without refering to your personal observations and experience with light...give me the most persuasive argument that rainbows exist.

You can refer to books and other second hand knowledge and heresay...but it is less persuasive than repeatable observation and experience.

Following this rule, you will get answers like - "for the Bible tells me so". Mostly, people answering that only have belief in the book and no real understanding or experience.

Oh he exists, right along with Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. You want proof that he doesn't exist go to Iraq or the Sudan and watch a baby die simply because it was born into the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess Jesus just forgot about those places.

It's so easy to say god exists when your in your own little sheltered world having bible study on sunday and then off to the mall.... the world is bigger than that... wake up and look around!

Have you ever heard of believing without seeing??
Just like you can't see air, but you know that it is there right!
How do you think the first human being got here??
The Bible is true, and when people start believing the words in it, then the less people will have to wonder if He is real!!!
