... yet suicide is an unforgivable sin. If that's not correct, please blame a group of Christians I know and asked this of.

How does that work? They explained to me that suicide is a sin because you are destroying God's creation (your own life) but isn't that the case with murder, too?

Doesn't make sense to me. Christians, please tell me your thoughts.

You have been talking to a group that hasn't studied very much.. Tell you what since this is a question about what Christian should believe and Christian see the Bible as the very word of God, lets turn there and see what God teaches on this subject:
Mark 3:28-29
Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

Nope looks like suicide will be forgiven, unless that person has died blaspheming the Holy Ghost... IHS Jim

Murder is a sin. It is not "Ok" to murder, but, just as with something like lying or stealing, one can repent of it. That does not mean that that one can continue to go around murdering, and continue to ask for forgiveness (Romans 6). If a person does anything like this with any sin, then there is reason to doubt if that person has really been saved.
Suicide, similarly, is also a sin. The debate about the "forgivability", if you will, about suicide lies basically around this: With most sin, one can ask forgiveness and repent of it. Obviously, with many forms of suicide, this is not possible. However, if one accepts that, once they become a Christian, then their sin is paid for, then it can be deducted from that that they are forgiven, and will thus go to heaven after committing suicide. This may be so. However, do you want to be the one to find out?
On a side note, suicide is generally more than just the taking of a life. It is essentially taking your life in your own hands. By committing suicide, a person often says, "My life is not going the way I want it to; becuase of this, I'm not going to allow God to work "all things for good" (Romans 3:23). I'm going to do what I want." So, in essence, suicide is an act of selfishness. This is especially true for a Christian, who, by accepting Jesus as their LORD and Savior, is now suddenly saying, "Hey, I want to be the lord of MY life!"
In conclusion, suicide is probably forgivable. But, when and IF and Christian person who commits suicide gets to heaven, they will have missed out on so much that God had for them.

I do not blame you for being an athiest if all of what you wrote is what "Christians" taught you. But no longer all Christians suppose this recognise this and educate this. In reality EVER unmarried factor you expressed is strictly the reverse of what the Bible honestly teaches. And those educating the detailed reverse of what the Bible honestly says? Holds the finest accountability for such a lot of individuals being blindly "led right into a pit" There isn't any burning hell of torment eternally. Blaspheming towards the holy spirit is NOT taking God's identify in useless. Proverbs 6:sixteen-19 sixteen There are six matters the LORD hates, seven which are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a mendacity tongue, fingers that shed blameless blood, 18 a center that devises depraved schemes, toes which are rapid to hurry into evil, 19 a fake witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up dissension amongst brothers. And those that stir this up? Are the very ones that educate a hellfire and everlasting damnation. That is not God. Don't fear, when you NEVER beleive established on what you will have been taught. The ones educating those absurdities preserve a bigger accountability and might be duly looked after. I am no longer going to "hell" THE worst that would occur to me whether it is God's will is to die a terrible dying, then sleep eternally with out suggestion or affliction. Period. And that's if what I am educating in his identify is unsuitable. I am completely happy you bought this available in the market. No subject what you do not stand a risk of everlasting damnation. Have a groovy one. Seriously.

If murder is forgivable, that explains why OJ is still running around so fat and sassy. After all, he didn't cause anyone's suicide, did he? From what I've heard, at least in some churches, suicide may now be seen as a possible outcome of mental illness. Therefore, it is not judged to be a sin. Its only the more conservative churches that still see suicide in a harsh light, which is a shame.

I think the teaching that suicide is unforgivable comes from the Roman Catholic church, who believe that you have to confess your sins before you die and receive absolution in order to get to heaven, and of course if you kill yourself, you can't do that.

The Bible says that the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

My opinion is that God forgives all sins (except the one unforgivable sin), and that He would have great mercy on a person so distraught that he or she committed suicide.

Matthew 26:28
28This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

It doesn't say some sins and not others. And the my that it is referring to is Jesus. The popular protestant belief is that all sin is equal unlike the venial/mortal sin veiw of the catholic church which thinks some are worse than others. Therefore by Protestant standards sin wise murder and lying is the same therefore it isn't weird that they are both forgiven under Jesus blood because they are both sins.

I don't believe suicide is unforgiveable. When Jesus died for my sins, he paid the price for All of the sins. Past, present and future. So even if I commit suicide and can't ask for forgiveness, the sin is still forgiven.

Both are sins, but a murderer has the chance to reform and pay penance. One who commits suicide cannot exactly do that, so he died with un unclean soul.

If you are really interested in this, you might consider watching the movie "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams (but not a comedy) it philosophically addresses your question.

Suicide in and of itself is not "unforgivable." The problem is that you have to repent your sins for them to be forgiven. If you kill yourself, that doesn't leave you any time afterward to repent the sin of murder.

I suppose if you don't die immediately but cannot reverse the damage or cease the action, you can repent and still go to heaven after killing yourself.

For the born-again child of God, there is no unforgivable sin. All sin was forgiven at the cross. When Christ Jesus said, "It is finished" (John 19:30), that statement meant that the penalty for all sin was paid in full - including suicide and murder.
