Please, do not let my words offend you as I am trying to help you.
I am not aware of Thai martial arts using a Japanese belt system. Question this first.
Rank does not matter. Do not focus on it. It is abstract and does not exist outside the walls of the training facility. It is just used to organize people within a system.
Instead you should strive for ability, improve yourself. Do not worry about rank or how long it takes to achieve a title.
Just train and enjoy the moment. That is the spirit of martial arts.

Muay Thai Black Belt

It really does vary. My son started At 10yrs old, trains 3 or more times a week, does his fitness and stretching routine every evening and graded for brown/ black last week it's took him 3yrs to get this point and I'm expecting it'll take probably anothers 6+ months to be ready for his black. It really depends on instructers and the individual. Some people, like my son have a natural ability that is then built apon, crafted and nurtured so it might be quicker for them to achieve the black. Saying that, pure grit and determination and refusal to fail can drive others that might not technically be gifted but goes a long way towards being a great martial artist. Obviously you aim to be the full package. So in answer to the question, there isn't an exact time a lot of factors are in play, student capabilities, good or bad instructors/dojo's, money making classes or genuine respect for the art. May take 3 or maybe 8yr, some might never get there. How much do you want it? That's the answer

Belt sytem in place at the school you sent a link to is for encouragement purposes. I notice the link is to Kims Karate where the belt system gives you a sense of accomplishment when you are young. However I have been Thai Boxing for over 5 years and the only belt anyone has ever given me was to hold up my pants. My instructor knows my level because he is hands on and sees me everyday. Each school is different, but traditionally there is no belt ranking in Muay Thai Boxing unless I have been in the dark for the last five years

lol black belts in muay thai

anyways true muay thai doesnt have belts its kinda like western boxing in that sense your fighting record is your ranking. however some places may award belts just for the heck of it, i've NEVER seen a gym award belts but hey theres a 1st time for everything.

if you watch mma, k1, or thai boxing matches you dont hear that so and so fighter is a black belt in muay thai

like i said since muay thai doesnt usually have belts or some organization regulating ranking systems so it really just depends on your teacher it shouldnt be any different from any other arts at least 3 yrs(training hardcore) but then again that all depends on how often you train and how good you are naturally

My son's martial arts academy offers Muay Thai for both children and adults. In the children's program, they test the students on a scheduled basis and award belts ranging from white through black. The black belt the kids earn is considered a "junior black belt", but that doesn't mean they don't train hard! My son is testing next week for his black belt it will have taken him just shy of 3.5 years to earn it (he was eligible to test at the 3 year, 2 month mark but he chose to continue training until he felt comfortable).

The adults also earn belts but they do not wear them in class, nor do they wear a traditional gi. A junior black belt can join the adult ranks at age 14 and they begin as the equivalent as a brown belt, which is several levels below black belt (brown, brown tip, brown 1, brown 1 tip, brown black, brown black tip and then black).

Some American schools that teach Mui Thai might offer belts, but if you go to Thailand you will not find a single school or trainer that uses a belt system. I would suspect that any Mui Thai school that uses belts would qualify as a "McDojo." The instructor probably is trained in Tae Kwon Do or Karate, but now teaches "Thai Kick Boxing" because it is trendy.

The link in the question has a Korean flag hanging in the background, and according to their "instructors" page, no one is listed as having any experience with Muay Thai. It looks like a Tae Kwon Do school that is just using "Thai" as a promo.

You can find some genuine info about Thai Boxing applied to foriegners/farangs at this website. http://www.muaythaionline.org/disciplines/judgefightclassifications.html
