3 Questions, 3 failures to
a) READ the question
b) Understand what Buddhism actually is

Despite stating I was Buddhist, I was told that my "2000 year old book" isn't a good resource? Funny, Buddhism has some old writings but it ain't the bible.

As well, I was accused of being closed minded when I'm actually arguing 2 sides to a paradox. I've repeatedly stated I do not believe in god but failure to "read a question, absorb the information, then reply" is what I am getting.

So, Atheists, do you know anything about Buddhism?

Do you think it's a "follow me" religion?

Do you think Buddha was a god?

Do you think it is not encouraged to ask question, test, and find things out for yourself on this particular path?

I would like to know how much you know of Buddhism.

Someone ignorantly said Atheism and Buddhism are the same thing - A complete and utter example of ignorance towards what Buddhism is.

While the sharing of "no diety" is shared, there is a we bit more then that.

I understand that Buddhist doctrines are more "how to" than "follow me". The Buddha was an exemplar of the method of discovery, realization and response to the misery of the world, not a "god". I also understand that Buddhism inherits from Hinduism the notion that the physical world is ultimately an illusion of separation and desire that disappears along with the individual consciousness when correctly perceived. To its credit, Buddhism states that the authentic response of an enlightened individual in the world is compassion, but it is still understood that this too is allegorical. The goal remains to get out of this corrupt and illusory world.

Atheists generally believe that for all practical purposes the world is what it is and should be handled as such, and that speculation about a deeper "reality" should be kept in the realm of ideas until there is convincing evidence of its existence.

And I know there are many kinds of Buddhism, including theistic forms that appeal to various divine Buddhas for help.

I would like to address this aspect

Buddhists are not Atheists

We have the God Realms

We do not believe in a Creator God as such

Edit

No we do not worship Idols

When a Buddhist makes offerings to Lord Buddha we are honoring the qualities He displayed The Dhamma { teachings] He revealed

When a Person Prostrates towards Lord Buddha it is internal not external
Buddhism teaches every Sentient Being has Buddha Nature
This potential to become Buddhas themselves

It is easy I know for a Non Buddhist to misunderstand this aspect
I can assure You we do not worship Idols
Only respect what they represent

Buddhist would not slander anothers belief
They are entitled to follow their chosen path in the same way you are entitled to follow Yours

Buddha is a few thing that we are in a position to all attain, even women persons could be a buddha. i can locate some flaws with Buddhism yet those flaws I drop with the aid of the wayside as being the incorrect area of any religious teachings. Buddha isn't God the two yet Buddhism exhibits a pathway to what God is. It additionally exhibits approaches to attain this state of being. So does the christian yet theirs is extra stable to work out in the instructions. specific, I somewhat have studied yet I keep on with no earthly faith. My ideals come from a a lot greater source.

I do know a bit about Buddhism. I wouldn't describe it as a 'follow me' religion, I understand Buddha specifically told his students not to believe anything simply on the basis that he said it. And no, I don't think Buddha was a god. And sure, you're encouraged to ask questions.

However, to the best of my knowledge, you're not encouraged to be deeply offended by a few people's misunderstanding and then take it out on everyone who shares the same view concerning the existence of deities.

Well only a little. It is more of a Philosophy than a religion. Buddha was just a man, and atheism is not incompatible with it.

You have to realize that when you type four paragraph long questions, the vast majority of people will look at it mainly as preaching, and give you a quick answer. Cut it down a little and maybe it will get read.

Nope, I don't know that much about Buddhism. I do know how to spell Buddha and I'm glad you spelled it correctly on this rant.

Now, may I ask, why are you attacking atheists? What I did know about Buddhism led me to believe that it was a peaceful religion that was based in trying to achieve higher awareness. Obviously I was wrong and it has far more in common with the religion you keep telling us that some atheists are confusing you with.

What gets me, is that your saying your a Buddhist isn't enough. Considering the different Buddhist Sects, and that some of those are as divided as say...Islam and Christianity...you need to be more specific in your beliefs.

I know Buddhist are supposed to be attempting to get past their mental bariers and transcend physical or emotional needs.

And that you don't seem to have gotten very far in your journey. You have too much hostility. Saying you're a Buddhist hardly makes you one. Practicing Buddhist philosophies makes you Buddhist.

Also, being confrontational isn't very Buddist. I've met a few, and they never saw the need to A) proclaim their beliefs loudly or B) try and one-up other people.

You know very little about Buddhism. You said "mind" exists. Gautama Buddha said it does not. Go study and come back when you know more of what you are speaking of.

Buddhism does not conflict with Conservation of Energy, so why are you?
