u can get wmp11 from another source so yes thats not a problem .. as far as the disk being genuine install it and see ...

I would say that since it is from Microsoft, it is as genuine as any other copy of Windows, since Microsoft does make Windows. The Imagine Cup I would imagine would be a legit may to get a "Legal" copy of windows. Not that you are getting a "free" version XP here, which is the older system. Windows "Vista" is the newest one. I would think about looking into Linux if you are looking at doing "serious" things with computers as well. Microsoft, well, Bill Gates is a bully, plain and simple. "Windows isn't done till Lotus won't run." -Microsoft. Ya. Watch your back.

If you want the true test, you can find out, "the hard way," by going to the Microsoft update site: use Internet Explorer (that is, don't try it with Firefox or Opera, because they wouldn't let you do that, anyway!) Then, go to http://www.microsoft.com and go for software updates and Microsoft Updates and try to get your copy of Windows and Office up to date! If your copy of Windows isn't genuine, you'll sure enough hear about it!

Hi I am an administrator at our uni on E-Academy, basically once you have logged into the MSDN AA website and downloaded the product you are issued a product activation number from Microsoft that is genuine. You can ask for an additional product number too for example to install on an additional laptop.

go to microsoft and try to update to wmp 11. if you cant pass the validation then the key has already been used, and you have a used illegal copy.

There is no such thing as a genuine "COPY." It is either from Microsoft or it is illegal.

If youve downloaded it free its I would say 99.9% not genuine.
