My friend works in a place where they sell alcohol and cigarettes and their policy is to check the ID of everyone, even if they look 80 years old! Anyway, he said that when cops come in they never have their ID on them and one of them said that they aren't requited to carry their drivers licenses when driving! Is that true?

No.

I could be subject to disciplinary action if I were caught driving without my driver's license.

Drivers License ? Lonely Are the brave, Kirk Douglas as Jack Burns "table sergeant: You propose to declare you acquire no id in any respect? Jack Burns: it is surprising. table sergeant: No draft card, no social secure practices, no discharge? No coverage, no motive force's license, no no longer something? Jack Burns: No no longer something. table sergeant: look, cowboy, you may no longer bypass around without identication. that's a criminal offense. How are human beings going to nicely known who you're? Jack Burns: i do no longer prefer a card to choose who i'm. I already know." surprising previous movie and one in all Douglas' superb.

They are under the same requirements as everyone else. If an officer told me that while I was working, I would just point to the sign and say I can't help them. Just like firemen having a CDL. Anyone can drive an fire truck TO a fire, but you must have a CDL to drive it back to the station.

This is false, they are to obey the very laws they enforce, which includes having a vailid driver's license on their person whenever they are operating a motor vehicle on the public roads . This is a state law which applies to EVERYONE.
