You use the toilet, don't you? Unless your employer or the building has a cleaning staff, guess what - admin asst usually equals cleaning crew.
Personally, I would rather clean the bathroom and know it was done right than have to use it when someone else has cleaned it. Especially if I am not sure the someone else's standards of cleanliness are at least as high as mine.

Most commonly the job description of an admin asst. does not include cleaning toilets. If your boss is asking you to and you don't want to do it, say so and if that causes problems, switch to elsewhere.

If I was an administrative asst., then I would definitely have reservations about doing janitorial work. Especially if there is another position on staff that takes care of those sort of things. If it is a small business and everyone does the little things to make the office run efficiently, then I might understand.

Believe it or not, at my last job my boss did ask us to take turns cleaning the bathroom and mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors, cleaning sinks, etc. He had previously had a cleaning woman coming in to do this stuff, but once his new house was built, the cleaning lady starting cleaning his house but not his business. That's when he asked all of "us girls" (no male employees) to do these cleaning tasks. I thought it was sexist. If he had asked a bunch of guys to do that, they would have laughed him out of the place! For that reason, I stated my opinion, and I never did take a turn at cleaning. It didn't matter, because the business closed about 4 months later anyway.

Firstly, I would have requested a Job Description when I started working there.
Then I would have outlined the fact that cleaning the toilets did not come as part of my job description.
It depends how desperate I was to be employed, however!!!

Most job descriptions have that one little line that simply states, "and other tasks assigned." That could likely include cleaning toilets.
Many companies are cutting back, eliminating positions, and spreading duties around. If you're asked to clean toilets and you prefer not to, better have your resume ready to send out. You can be terminated for refusing to work at tasks you are assigned.

Depends - If you want a career in admin don't waste your time cleaning loos etc. If you just want a job doing anything then negotiate more cash and get the marigolds on.

I'm a secretary and I clean the toilets, the office, do the brewing up, shopping, paperwork, sleep with the boss to get my wages.........
I wouldn't wash his car! (In fact, I'd insist he washed mine!)
