The root problem is anxiety and fear. Fear of man, fear of failure or whatever the fear - deal with it.

When you have anxiety, the hypothalamus sets into motion not only an imbalance of the endocrine system, but anxiety and fear immediately affects the sympathetic nervous system, the involuntary nervous system and the central nervous system.

Behind a valve is a nerve and behind a sphincter muscle is a nerve. Heartburn is a neurological misfiring. The root behind it is fear and anxiety.

Perfect love casts out fear because fear has torment. God is perfect love and the peace that God gives is unsurpassable.

Any kind of strong base should help you out. Although it is common to think that milk helps - it is actually on the acidic side - so avoid it. In terms of real help - I would ask around and see if anyone has a tums or rolaid. Also, you may try drinking some water. If you are slightly dehydrated and just ate a moderate sized lunch - the lack of proper hydration could have caused it.
If you have heartburn often, an over the counter medication such as prilosec will provide relief - just note that you have to take it for a while - as it has a different synergistic effect than taking fast acting antacids.
As mentioned before - it would also do you good to get up and walk around - gravity helps.
Get to feeling better.

Here's what works for me when I get painful heartburn:
Take a couple of Tums and drink at least 2 glasses of water. Sometimes a dry cracker or two. Milk does not work; that was discovered 20-30 years ago.
Some people also find a liquid antacid works, such as Mylanta or Gelusil.
Prilosec will not work immediately, but I think Prevacid might. Ask the pharmacist.

well sitting up straight will help, even going for a walk will help, it allows gravity to work for you and keep your stomach acids where they belong. In the meantime, you can run to a nearby drugstore on a break and get some maalox, or tums, or whatever antacid you prefer.

Do you have any TUMS or Rolaids?Have you been to the doctor about this, if this happens more than 3 days a week you might have Acid Refux or GERD. I have it and I take Nexium(it is awesome!)
