I agree with you somewhat- I guess everyone's definition of"best possible circumstances" can be different. I have seen some with plenty of everything haivng a physical abundance of the material but are miserable , bitter and fearful- holding on for dear life to the possessions they have- to me, this is not the abundance that Jesus speaks of.
On hte other hand I have seen people that have very little in the way of material, but they are joyful - they give when and what they can , holding on to nothing they always seem to be full of peace, love, patience and joy and always have what they need , they never seem to be lackingbut are always giving- this to me is abundance and what I desire in my own life.
Just to be clear, I am talking of two extremes but not stereotyping or generalizing- there are many that are very rich and overflowing in material things but are also very giving and full of joy , peace, patience, etc - you dont have tp be poor to be able to have that, it just means that just because you are overflowing in the material does not mean you are necessarily living a life of abundance and just because you are not does not necessarily mean you are not living a life of abundnace.

At one time we lived in a mobile home and I thought we were poor, I longed for a "real" home.
Now we have a beautiful house. All that I wanted.
I love my house. But the abundance of it is the family I share it with, their love.
Living the abundant life is being grateful for what really matters. God knows we need food and shelter, and when we have those things we are blessed, when we share those things we are showing our gratitude.
Life without my family wouldn't be worth living. Having things to enjoy is great, having family to share those things with? The abundant life.
Mark Twain put it best: Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

there are so many ways to be abundant, to give abundantly to have abundance
there is enough for everyone
in Joy
in Love
in Peace
and in the physical sense- the world is abundant, if we share, respect and do not misuse or abuse the resources- if we care deeply about each other as human beings, see everyone as your brother/sister
