Well, mushrooms are attracted to moisture and dark, right? So try to keep as much sunlight on the area.

Cutting them down won't do anything since mushrooms spread spores like crazy. You need to get both the mushrooms AND the spores you can't see. Here's the best treatment for mushrooms:

Dig out the entire area around where the mushrooms are growing. Dig about 3-4 inches deep, and at least two feet out from where the last mushroom is. Get rid of all the debris. Then, take some kind of soil aerator or trowel and really mix up the dirt. Then, take baking powder and sprinkle in the area and then water the area slightly. Wait an hour and then mix up the dirt again. Wait a week and repeat. The Baking Soda will kill any spores that are hiding.

If the mushrooms don't return after doing this for a few weeks you can plant new soil.

Even though it may kill the grass and you'll have to keep the little one away from that area of the yard for a bit longer, bleach will probably work. Pouring straight bleach will kill just about anything, and they probably won't grow back.

The possibility for jokes here is endless.
I don't know of any such thing as mushroom poison. Just go pick them and throw them away.

I think you need to just pick them. I mean, you don't want your child out there ingesting poison instead.

You can try and cut them away. Maybe you should also think about keeping a better eye on your child.
