You can absolutely either toast with sparkling cider, or just have them give a short speech with no toast. Either one is perfectly acceptable.

Hi and congratulations!
OF COURSE YOU CAN!! A toast is simply a congratulatory message usually said by the best man (at least at the weddings I go to.) If someone else wants to give the toast and still have some speeches by the best man and maid of honor.....that would be acceptable too! Just because you don't drink doesn't mean you can't have a toast.
Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful wedding!

a toast is someone or something in honor of which people usually have a drink, the drink or honor itself, or the act (pledge) of indicating that honor....merely raising one's glass towards someone or something and then drinking is essentially a toast as well, the message being one of goodwill towards the person or thing indicated.
Toasting traditionally involves alcoholic beverages. Champagne (or at least some variety of sparkling wine) is regarded as especially festive and is widely associated with New Year's Eve and situations of a sudden, congratulatory nature (such as learning that one has gained a lucrative business contract).
***There is no requirement that beverages contain alcohol, but it isn't uncommon for a person who is not drinking alcohol on a given occasion (but who is not a teetotaler either) to take just a sip of an alcoholic beverage in honor of the toast in preference to a soft drink.
>>>Often, drinks are mixed among participants, such as when some people drink sparkling cider instead of champagne.
It is a tradition in the United States Navy that a toast is never to be made with water, this being said to indicate that the person so honored will be doomed to a watery grave. In general, toasting with water is regarded as bad luck by some and as insufficiently festive by others.

Yes it's fine to use sparkling cider for an alchohol free reception and also having the maid of honor and the best man say a few words is basically the same thing as a toast.

You can use sparkling cider if you want, or you can just have people toast with whatever drink they have. Toasting at a reception is traditional, especially when you do the cake cutting. I suppose it's not mandatory, though. As in most things, it's your wedding, so do what you want! Alcohol beverages are NEVER mandatory, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

I used sparkling grape juice to toast at my wedding because my husband and I don't drink and many of my guests didn't drink either. It is a good idea anyway so that noone is excluded from the toast.

Totally acceptable. Either or- you can toast or not toast and still keep the best man/maid of honor speeches in your reception.
Congrats!

Sure it's perfectly okay to use sparkling apple cider. You can even toast with chocolate milk if you want to. It's your day so you should choose whatever you wish. Congratulations!

We had our reception at the church, so no alcohol. We used sparkling cider. It's the toast, not the drink :)
Martinelli's comes in champagne looking bottles and everything.
