Your Vista operating System should work better with 1 gig of Ram memory or more. 512 mb is not enough to handle all your running programs and hardwares plus the operating system. Lack of Ram memory will cause a computer/laptop to run slow and freeze up. Multi-tasking also becomes very difficult.

You can check your laptop for updates at this Microsoft link

Service pack 1 is due to be released in the first quarter in 2008. When it does come out get it so your laptop will have the latest updates for your Vista

The problem is that your computer isn't good enough to run Vista, you need atleast 1gb or more of RAM to run it. You only have 512 mb. Vista is an awful recource hog and will continue to be for its entire life. A free Service Pack will be available with many upgrades that MIGHT help. But no matter what it gives your computer is going to run vista waaaaay to slow. Go back to XP its stable. If vista was installed on your laptop at purchase the people that sold it are idiots to put vista on a computer that has less than a gb of memory. Go back to the store and demand XP in place of Vista! You can also try getting more memory. Get atleast 1 gb if not 2. Hopefully you have enough room in the laptop for that. Hope this helps.

Updates are generally free. But I would have had at least 1 gig of ram, if not, 2 gigs or more. I bought a laptop from Dell, Vist Basic, 2 gigs of ram (Vista is a memory hog, i knew this early on) Core 2 Duo 1.83GHZ processor 80GB hard drive. I actually "downgraded" back to xp pro. I didn't like Vista, I had too many programs that wouldn't work with it. so i said forget this, and installed xp pro. to begin with xp only needs 128MB of ram, so 512MB is decent. Nowadays though you want to try to buy a computer with at least a gig of ram. Most programs, like Office 2007 (Word, Excel etc.) require a good bit of ram. Hope this helps.

You need far more than 512Mb for Vista!!! Like, at least 1G, preferably 2G!!! Is there any chance you can upgrade your memory?
