My brother and I are throwing my parents a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party. We have some ideas of what to make, but I was wondering if anyone has any good party recipes, instead of the normal party food my family makes. Thank you.

I should have added this before, it for about 60-75 people.

When my brother and I had a 40th Anniversary for my parents, we had about 30 people there. My mom wanted to help prepare the food with me (my brother is the planner, I'm the "do-er"). We served lunch meat and bread, home made potato salad, deviled eggs, a macaroni salad with smoked salmon, a fruit bowl with honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes, strawberries, kiwi and bing cherries, my mother's favorite of all cake - a Coconut Cake - it has coconut in the cake itself - coconut cream, coconut extract, and shredded coconut. I also served home-made Chinese BBQ pork with the toasted sesame seeds and hot Chinese mustard (I used powdered mustard, vinegar, and boiling water and it was definitely hot). I had the condiments for the sandwiches too plus the sliced onions, tomatoes, cheese, and lettuce. Don't remember if I had sprouts or not. Those were the foods my mother requested. Word to the wise!! DON'T put 75 egg shells down your garbage disposal like I tried - plugged that sucker right up!! We wound up peeling potatoes in the bath tub just so we could have running water. Made lots of memories that day.

You might ask your parents what their favorite foods are (if you don't already know them) and serve those. Especially if your mom doesn't make them anymore because there are "just the two of us".

For their 50th it was catered. That was my brother and his wife's idea. They had a band and danced.

For their 60th we had an Open House so people came through their house throughout the day. Again we had my mother's favorite choices. And she loves potato salad and deviled eggs. I think we had fried chicken that year.

They are now at their 62nd year.

Without giving you a loaundry list of recipes, I would suggest you check out a discount resturant supplier that can help you serve that many people on a budget. The bestone in our area is Gordon Food Services (GFS). They are awesome. They even have this cool program that you can put in what type of event, how many people and it will give you menus to choose from with the correct amount of portions. I was unsure from your description if you wanted to do dinner or just hors' dourves. Everything is in bulk so you can buy a lot and they have everythingto make a sit down dinner or the appetizers. Best of all there stuff is quite yummy! Any way they can help you out, save you time and $$!

Good luck!

I recently returned from my In-laws 50th wedding anniversary. We went to their favorite Chinese restaurant where we hired the caterers and the services of the servers. It was well planned and organized, we were able to decorate how we wanted and the drinks were just flowing. It was a good idea and we just had to pay the bill. No up and down or worries. Good luck

I tried this and people raved about them, and they were so easy:
fresh mushrooms, washed & halved if very big
bacon (turkey bacn will work if anyone doesn't eat pork)
BBQ sauce a good sweet one, I mixed honey KC masterpiece (thick) with plain ol' mauls (thin) gave great flavor and covered well

Wrap mushrooms with bacon
fry on griddle till bacon is done, turning as each side goes brown
drop into large pan cover with sauce
bake in oven to finish bacon and set the sauce.
YUM!

Id say if you will have few people then you can consider serving a full meal.. start with salad.. have bread rolls, butter.. u can serve rice pilaf, chicken breast..and stemaed veggies. That is a meal that wont be to expensive and is easy to cook up =).. if you will have a big party.. then I wouldnt serve a full meal.. just party platters.. cheese, ham, olives, crakers (variety) sushi, meatballs..etc.. good luck! Hope they have a great time

That's such a nice thing for you and your brother to do!!

I have no idea what your family "normally makes" but nachos are quick and easy! You can make different ones to suit different people. Some with 'meat' some without, some with onions some without.... Use different cheeses; you can have different 'dips' for them too. Salsa, sour cream, cheese, guacamole...Mmmmmm.....

Tell your parents "Happy Anniversary" for me! ;)

and here are some websites that i love to get easy meals:

since you are cooking for a lot of people, i reccomend that you multiply the recipe. (if the recipe says "yeild:6" and you are cooking for 60, multiply all of the ingredients by 10)

good luck, and have fun at the party

Seriously, I would suggest you make fettuccine alfredo. It is simple and very delicious. You could also make spaghetti and meatballs. Serve with garlic bread and wine perhaps and you have a simple, delicious meal! Good luck!! Sounds like fun :)
