the four best things you can use are free:
AVG Antivirus is free at http://www.grisoft.com
Adaware is free at http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot Search and Destroy is free at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
and SpywareBlaster is free at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
download and install them all. I use them and I have had no trouble with viruses or spyware in years.

Actually Avast is the BEST free antivirus!
Adaware is a great free antispyware software.
Spybot Search and Destroy is a GREAT program but is alitttle on the advanced side because it could delete some things that you may want...
