For those who have said its a bunch of lies.. its Fiction you doofuses. The Ayatollah put a bounty on his head for offenses against the prophet, but he certainly only speaks for one sect of Islam, and only Iranian ones at that. So yes they can read the book. But not in Iran.

and let me reiterate... its a work of Fiction. Rushdie is one of the most celebrated novelists of the last 30 years.

To be honest, i got pass just the first few pages, not even the 1st chapter lol..

Soooo...from what i did read..its a load of nonsense...dont know why the majority of the Muslim population went MENTAL for, when a very SMALL minority probably JUST about read it....Rushdie is an Indian born man, born into the Islamic faith, he's no longer a Muslim (probably an Agnostic ???)..anyways, so the story goes, he goes onto insult the prophet, Maggie Thatcher, our Queen Elizabeth as well as the British people...some of the words, ones i DID come across he used the asian swear words, words which your non asian person wudnt know any way lol...

In my opinion, the Muslims gave this unknown author a global recognition...so who's laughed all the way to the bank???

I bet the Ayatollah hadnt even read the book himself lol...any ways..the guy dont bother me anyway....just has been a silly decision for him to be knighted when someone else REALLY deserving in the literacy world should have got it.

I have read it. It insults everyone, it is a complicated book to read where four main characters and one is the Arch Angel Gabriel in the language of the east is called Jibril Firishta.

I bought the book just to see what all the fuss was about.I started reading and realized it was a work of fiction and I really dont like to read fiction so I just couldnt stay with it for very long .I bet he made alot of money off of the book though because of all of the controversy surrounding him.I personally dont think it was offensive to me because I dont believe the characters In the book are real People.I see it as a fictional story written by a man with a Big Imagination.But I definately did not care for the Subject Matter.

Allowed to read any books, from my point of view, as saying goes you can not judge a book by its cover, not many people have read the book to know what is all about.

I read bits and pieces here and there, as far as my analysis is he did not only Islaam or prophet of Islaam but other religions as well, PLUS the British Monarch, and prime minister of United Kingdom including in general public of British, this is as a British I look in to it .
